One day after our nation paused
to remember Martin Luther King Jr, his
son addressed a large crowd at Roanoke
College.

The second oldest child of
Martin Luther King Jr spoke to more
than two thousand people tonight on the
campus of Roanoke College.

His speech titled "My Father's
Dream, My Mission" focused on social
responsibility and ending poverty in
today's society.

Before the speech, King told us
he believes our country's priorities
are out of whack.

to run for president, if the country is

Yesterday Delegate Frank Hargrove
answered a call from a Charlottesville
newspaper reporter who wanted to hear
his thoughts on a resolution to issue a
state apology for slavery.

Hargrove said he thinks
Virginia's black citizens need to get
over it.

he's appalled.

in police custody, Lynchburg's
prosecutor says he's ready to release
his findings in the case of Clarence
Beard Junior.

Sept. 24th The 46-year-old Beard died as
police were arresting him inside his
home at the James Crossing apartment
complex on September 24th.

An autopsy suggested heart problems
were the cause of death, but local
activists maintain Beard was beaten by

Prosecutor Mike Doucette (doo-SET)

has prepared a 34-page report which
he'll release tomorrow afternoon.

Both Doucette and the city manager
have scheduled afternoon press
conferences to discuss the findings.

Vick are asking a judge to throw out a
6-point-3 million dollar lawsuit.

being sued by a 17 year old
Christiansburg girl.

The teen says she had a sexual
relationship with Vick for nearly 2
years.

According to the lawsuit the girl
dropped out of school and suffered
psychological trauma.

Vick's attorney never addressed
whether Vick had a relationship with
the girl, but says there's no basis for
the civil suit.

problems with 19 of the 21 contracts it

month he's taken more than a dozen
phone calls from people complaining
about strays.

He says they're worried un-kept
cats could be carrying rabies and
eventually pass it on to humans.

That's why Greer has proposed an
ordinance that would require all cat
owners to purchase a license, so the
county can easily identify cats who've
had their shots and those who haven't.

Divorce reform is on the Family
Foundation's agenda that some local
folks were in Richmond today to help
push.

Virginia law allows no- fault
divorces....that means a marriage can
be dissolved without either party
showing fault.

Delegate Bob Marshall wants to
change that by denying couples with
young children a no- fault divorce if
either spouse objects.

Another bill would allow couples
to sign a pre or post- nuptial
agreement to make it more difficult to
get out of the marriage.

Supporters believe limiting
divorce will help children.

Nascar broadcasts over the last couple
of years but will be no longer.

2000 Benny Parsons passed away this
morning from Lung Cancer at a Charlotte
Hospital.

Parson won the Winston Cup

Championship in 1973 and became a T-V
Commentator after his driving career
ended.

Parsons driving career included a
1975 Daytona 5-hundred win. and he was
recognized as one of Nascar's 50
greatest drivers after retirement, that
honor inlcuded a cover of a Wheaties
Box.

He worked in the T-V Booth for
E-S-P-N and then for the past couple of
years for N-B-C.

Parsons was diagnosed with
lung cancer in July, was reported to be
in remission, only to be admitted to
the hospital last December.

The one- time smoker gave up
cigarettes in 1978, and wouldn't even
allow anyone to smoke around him.

Benny Parsons was 65 years old.

Coach Bud Foster finally brought home
the hardware from Little Rock. Foster
won the Broyles Award given to the

Nations Top Assistant Coach. It was
the fourth time that he had been
nominated for the award.

Foster just wrapped up his 20th
season in Blacksburg all under Frank
Beamer and he credits much of his
success to his Head Coach's guidance.

following Hurricane Katrina, this
little guy has turned into a symbol of
hope for the region.

Meet Noah Markham.....he was one
of 14 hundred embryos frozen in
canisters of liquid nitrogen at a
hospital in New Orleans.

After Hurricane Katrina hit,
Noah's embryo was rescued from the
flooded hospital.

He was born by C-section today
and weighed in at eight pounds six and
a half ounces.

Noah's mother considers his birth
a miracle.
