inside his Greenfield Drive apartment.

Officers had gone to the complex to
arrest someone else, but entered
Beard's apartment after they reportedly
heard a domestic dispute taking place
inside.

Authorities say Beard resisted
arrest and had to be pepper-sprayed ...
he stopped breathing shortly after and
was later pronounced dead at Lynchburg
General Hospital.

An autopsy indicated Beard died
because of heart-related problems, but
his family and civil rights activists
say Beard was beaten by the police.

They still want the U-S Justice

Barbara Leach of the Virginia
Co-operation extention says, for
plants, spring has already sprung... or
so they thought. Some have started
producing flowering buds that stand to
be damaged with cold temperatures on
the horizon.

Just how much damage depends on
how cold it gets and how long it stays
cold.

SOT FULL SOT FULL

INQ= unfortunately 01.00 "UNFORTUNATELY A LOT OF OUR

PLANTS ARE NOT ONLY NOT HARDENED OFF, A
LOT OF THEM THINK IT'S SPRING AND ARE
COMING OUT OF DORMINANCY. WHAT WE NEED
TO DO IS START HARDENING OFF AGAIN SO
IF IT'S A LIGHT FREEZE AND IT DOESN'T
LAST FOR LONG THEY'LL PROBABLY
SUCCESSFULLY DO THAT." 01.17 (:17)

But if the deep-freeze doesn't
last too long, Leach says vegetative
bud die back could be minimal.

However, if the temperatures are
cold for a sustained amount of time...

The former Hokie quarterback is
being sued by a 17 year old
Christiansburg girl.

The teen says she had a sexual
relationship with Vick for nearly 2
years.

According to the lawsuit, the
girl dropped out of school and suffered

psychological trauma.

Vick's attorney hasn't addressed
whether Vick had a relationship with
the girl, but he says there's no basis
for the civil suit.

GRAPHIC=VT The Virginia Tech Defense has

finished tops in the nation for back to
back seasons.

So it's only fitting that Hokies
defensive coordinator Bud Foster has
been honored with the Broyles Award.

Foster received the award
yesterday in Little Rock Arkansas.

It is the fourth time he has been
nominated for the award, which goes to
the Top assistant Coach in the Nation.

Winning the award should surely
increase Foster's chances of being a
Head Coach one day.

The 47 year old has received
offers to leave for a Head coaching
position before, but chose to stay with
the Hokies.
