GRAPHIC=NFL After four seasons as the head

coach of the Dallas Cowboys - Bill
Parcells announced today that he is
stepping down as the head coach of
America's Team and retiring from
coaching.

ENG#=3 VO-NAT

VO-NAT Parcells' announcement comes 15

days after the Cowboys' season ended
and there was no indication that this
was coming. He'd been at his office
nearly every day since the season ended
and he still had one year left on his
currrent contract.,

He is retiring at the normal
retirement age of 65 after spending 20

years in the NFL as a head coach.

Over that time he won 183 games and two
Super Bowl titles.

But in his four years with the
Cowboys he was really just average -
winning 34 games and losing 32.

:00 The William and Mary grad
accepted the job last night and was
finalizing a a four-year contract
expected to pay him about $2.5 million
a year today. Tomlin, will be just the
team's third coach in 38 years
following Bill Cowher and Chuck Noll.
Ironically, Tomlin was hired on the
same day two black coaches made the
Super Bowl for the first time: Lovie

Smith in Chicago and Tony Dungy in
Indianapolis.

This Season According to a memo from an
assistant state attorney in Miami, lab
tests on the water bottle Vick tried to
carry onto a flight found no evidence
of drugs. Police had suspected that the
bottle's hidden compartment may have
contained marijuana.

Miami-Dade State Attorney's
Office says it will not be filing
criminal charges, and that the bottle

is no longer considered evidence in an
investigation. Vick was forced to
throw away the bottle when he attempted

to take it through airport security
last Wednesday. He was not arrested at
the time and went on to board an
AirTran flight to Atlanta.
