10 KMC CBS-State-Union --- livegene George Bush 2020 --
GRAPHIC=Bush It was a night of firsts for

President Bush last night.

He delivered a State of the Union
message to a Democratic- controlled
Congress for the first time.

It was also the first time a woman
was seated in the House Speaker's
chair.

As expected, Bush addressed the Iraq
war-- defending his call for more
troops in the region.

< Democrats.. and a war-weary nation..
President Bush made this appeal. BUSH
21:50:07 Our country is pursuing a new
strategy in Iraq - and I ask you to
give it a chance to work. The president
warned that pulling out of Iraq now
would threaten America's security. He
said the more than 20-thousand U-S
reinforcements on the way are needed to
help stabilize Baghdad. BUSH 21:47:50 I
chose this course of action because it
provides the best chance of success.
Turning to matters at home.. the
President talked about expanding health
care coverage to millions of uninsured
Americans.. and slashing dependence on
foreign oil. BUSH 21:31:11 Let us build
on the work we have done and reduce
gasoline usage in the United States by
20 percent in the next ten years Mr.
Bush opened by congratulating the first

woman house speaker.. and made a
friendly reach across the aisle. BUSH
21:16:37 Like many before us, we can
work through our differences, and
achieve big things for the American
people. Democrats were not wowed by his
domestic agenda and are mounting strong
opposition to his Iraq plan. (Sen. Jim
Webb (D-VA)) WEBB 22:21:56 The majority
of the nation no longer supports the
way this war is being fought; nor does
the majority of our military. Nor does
the majority of Congress. We need a new
direction. The freshman senator from
Virginia called for a shift to regional
diplomacy that will allow u-s combat
forces to come home. >>

C-V-S is tearing down the old
Schoolfield Recreation Center on West
Main Street to build a new pharmacy.

A neighborhood group had sought to
preserve the old building but couldn't
find a suitable alternative site.

So C-V-S presented the group with
the cornerstone, which contained a time
capsule from 1916.

Inside were old photographs,
newspapers and bits of cloth made by
the Dan River Mills.

< Democrats.. and a war-weary nation..
President Bush made this appeal. BUSH

21:50:07 Our country is pursuing a new
strategy in Iraq - and I ask you to
give it a chance to work. The president
warned that pulling out of Iraq now
would threaten America's security. He
said the more than 20-thousand U-S
reinforcements on the way are needed to
help stabilize Baghdad. BUSH 21:47:50 I
chose this course of action because it
provides the best chance of success.
Turning to matters at home.. the
President talked about expanding health
care coverage to millions of uninsured
Americans.. and slashing dependence on
foreign oil. BUSH 21:31:11 Let us build
on the work we have done and reduce
gasoline usage in the United States by
20 percent in the next ten years Mr.
Bush opened by congratulating the first
woman house speaker.. and made a
friendly reach across the aisle. BUSH
21:16:37 Like many before us, we can
work through our differences, and
achieve big things for the American
people. Democrats were not wowed by his
domestic agenda and are mounting strong
opposition to his Iraq plan. (Sen. Jim
Webb (D-VA)) WEBB 22:21:56 The majority
of the nation no longer supports the

way this war is being fought; nor does
the majority of our military. Nor does
the majority of Congress. We need a new
direction. The freshman senator from
Virginia called for a shift to regional
diplomacy that will allow u-s combat
forces to come home. >>

teaches them to ski at Wintergreen

The Wounded Warriors Weekend is
organized through the Walter Reed Army

Medical Center.

Many of the soldiers are still in
pain from injury-at-war.

According to Adaptive Skiing
directors, it doesn't matter what
physical or mental state the soldiers
are in when they arrive.

The program offers motivation and
opens a door for the soldiers into what
their new body can accomplish.

Wintergreen Resort President, Bob

soldiers another outlet for overcoming
life's obstacles.
