As many as a dozen militants, dressed
in new U.S. combat fatigues and
carrying American weapons, were waved
through an Iraqi checkpoint. They were
driving black Suburbans, the kind used
by the U.S. government in Iraq.

Once inside the compound, the militants
attacked, opening fire and throwing
grenades. They killed one American
soldier and wounded three more then
taking four more soldiers hostage they
drove off.

Iraqi police chased down the vehicles

.. about 25 miles away. The SUVs were
abandoned ... and in the back of one
... two soldiers were handcuffed
together and shot to death. Another was
dead nearby and the fourth died on the
way to the hospital. It s a story the
military was slow to confirm.

(Defense Secretary Gates)

"I've just been made aware of the
discrepancy in the account and I've
asked for the specifics about it.

Meanwhile, President Bush talked about
the troop surge that s already underway
in Iraq.

(SOT: President Bush) - "some are

condemning the plan before it's even
had a chance to work. And they have an
obligation and serious responsibility
to put up their own plan as to what
would work."

(STANDUP BRIDGE: Gwen Belton / CBS NEWS

SENATE PLANS TO VOTE ON A RESOLUTION
THAT DECLARES: SENDING ADDITIONAL

who got his start kicking at
Pulaski County, was back in Cougar-land
for a very special evening. After

signing autographs for fans before the
Pulaski-Hidden Valley game, Shayne took
part in a special pregame ceremony
honoring his former kicking coach
Kenneth Dobson. A resolution passed by
the General Assembly honoring the
former school superintendent was read
to those in attendance and presented to
Mr. Dobson's widow and family members.

Shayne's night was actually far
from over. At halftime the former
Friday Football Extra player of the
week returned to the court along with
his former coach Joel Hicks to accept
the ultimate honor as his high school
jersey number 14 was retired.

Graham and fellow Cougar Gary
Clark are the only players to receive
this honor.

Both made it from Pulaski all the
way to the NFL Pro Bowl.

Hidden Valley vs. Pulaski Co. Pulaski County came out ready to :00 play - Nubian Peak penetrates on the
Titans' defense and pulls up and hits
the jumper for the Cougars.

Pulaski was on its game
throughout the first half as Peak gets
another easy one and the Cougars lead
by two at the break.

But Hidden Valley came back. Ben
Boggs goes the length of the floor,
spins, and scores off the glass as the
Titans start to come back.

*CG final Hidden Valley Then off the inbounds - T.C Bane makes 77 it look easy. Hidden Valley rallies in Pulaski Co. the second half to post the 77-to-55 55 win over the Cougars.

William Byrd vs. William Fleming The Colonels were working on :00 their pregame moves just before tip-off
as they put their heads together at
center court.

Terrier's game plan was to milk
the clock, run their offense and
maximize their open opportunities.
Senior Cameron Shepherd will run off a
pick on the baseline and knock in this
three pointer early in the game.

But after that - Fleming clamped
down the defense and took the rock
inside.

Jamelle Hagins takes a nice entry
pass from Troy Daniels and wheels to
the hoop and scores on off the glass. *CG final William Byrd
