GRAPHIC=ACCC The ACC admits that the
officiating crew that handled the
Clemson-Duke game last night messed up
the ending of the game - a mistake that
allowed Duke extra time to score what
turned out to be the winning basket.
Coordinator of basketball
officials John Clougherty says league
officials
reviewed game tape today, had
conversations with referees, talked to
both coaches
and realize a timing error occured.

Last Night Clemson scored on this Vernon
Hamilton layup with 5 seconds to play.
Duke was still ahead by three points,
but Blue Devil Josh McRoberts threw
theball into Hamilton by mistake and he
hit a 3-pointer to tie the score at 66.
However, the game clock didn't
start until after Hamilton's shot was
almost in the basket. The referees
decided to reset the game clock to
4-point-4 seconds. And that gave Duke
just enough extra time to beat the
final buzzer and win the game.
The ACC says its handling the
mistake internally.
