because of a power outage.
It all started last night when a nearby
transformer caught fire.

receiving plenty of community support.

parents and staff members of the school
showed up at the school board meeting.
Many of them were wearing
ribbons saying we support our
principal.
Principal Danny Guard is being
investigated by the Department of
Social Services for the way he
disciplined a child with autism.
A school board chairwoman says it
is up to D-S-S, and not the school
system, to investigate suspected cases
of child abuse.

suspect who allegedly abducted and
raped an Alleghany County woman.

Yesterday, 18-year-old Andrew
Michael Washburn was arrested and
charged with rape and malicious
wounding.
He was later taken to the
Botetourt County jail.
This arrest comes two days after
police say a woman was abducted from
the parking lot of the community
services board building in downtown
Clifton Forge.
Police say he took the woman to a
remote area in Botetourt County where
he raped her.
Investigators say the community
played a huge role in capturing the
suspect.

along with a recent pizza delivery.

Two weeks ago, Jemarh Fuell Jemar
Fuel ordered pizza and wings from the
Melrose Avenue Pizza Hut.
The delivery man brought the
order to his house, Fuell says when he
separated the boxes, he found what he
initially thought was a bag of
seasoning.
On closer inspection, he
discovered it was marijuana -that's
when he called police.

The president of the franchise
says there's an ongoing investigation
into the allegations and the company is

investigating a robbery.
It happened at around eleven
thirty last night at the E-Z Stop
Market number 2 on Memorial Drive.
Police say that a black man
wearing all black entered the store
with a gun and demanded money from the
register.
The suspect got away with an
undisclosed amount of cash.

the two small sick children from Floyd
County.
Since that time, the community has
come together in a big way to help the
families of three year old Joshua
Cantrell and four year old Chance
Harman.

VO NAT Both boys are suffering from a
rare malignant brain tumor.
They've each had surgery to
remove portions of that tumor and
they're currently being treated at
Duke.

members of the community have been
holding prayer vigils and fundraisers.
A little over 15-thousand dollars
has been raised for the boys so far.
The next fundraiser takes place
tonight, it will be a barbeque dinner
at Floyd County High School.

get help from the state for their sewer
problems.

The Senate yesterday passed a
bill that creates a fund to help keep
human waste from running into the James
River when it rains.
Every year, the first three-
million dollars deposited into the
Water Quality Improvement Fund would be
used to help fix the problem.
Lynchburg's sewer system used to
be state of the art, but now Senator
Steve Newman says it's out of
compliance.

financial burden Lynchburg faces
without state help.
The measure now goes before the
House where Delegate Shannon Valentine
has introduced a similar bill.
