going to have to find somewhere else to
dine at least for a while.

A fire yesterday caused extensive
smoke damage throughout the building.

The fire started shortly after 2
o'clock in the kitchen and spread to
the rest of the restuarant located on
Peters Creek Road.

Within 20 minutes, Roanoke Fire
E-M-S had it under control.

They are still investigating the
cause.

The restaurant is not open on
Sunday's and there were no injuries.

busy this weekend.

Around two yesterday morning they
went out to an alley in the 100 block
of North Wills Street after reports of
gunshots.

A man had been shot at least once
- he was rushed to Roanoke Memorial by
helicopter.

No word on his condition.

Also no arrest in this case.

There's been a daylong battle near
Najaf between Iraqi forces and
insurgents.

Authorities say U- S military
personnel also joined in.

road after fierce clashes with
insurgents. Earlier a camera phone
caught part of the battle with gunmen
suspected of plotting to kill Shiite
pilgrims and clerics during a religious
festival. US helicopters and tanks
joined in the battle that reportedly
left 300 militants dead.. one U-S
helicopter went down.. killing the two
crewmen on board. More deadly car bombs
rocked Baghdad today. President Bush's
strategy to quell some of the violence
is to send in another 21,500 U-S
troops. This week the full Senate
starts debate on a measure opposing his
plan. Backers of the non-binding
resolution insist their votes won't
hurt troops already there. (Sen, Joe
Biden, (D-DE)) BIDEN SOT the person who

is emboldening the enemy is the
president and his policies Pentagon
Chief Roberts Gates has warned
lawmakers that votes against the
president's strategy will bolster
insurgents. (Robert Gates, Secretary of

straightforward that any indication of
flagging will in the united states
gives encouragement to those folks.
This weekend thousands of anti-war
demonstrators flooded the national mall
to let the White House and Congress
know they want the troops home.
Hundreds are due back on Capitol Hill
today to lobby lawmakers for a
withdrawal. CLOSE: Senator Biden
estimated just 20 Senators believe the
president is headed in the right
direction.. but it may take a while
before the majority agree on a single
resolution opposing the troop build-up.

Barbaro has suffered another setback in
his recovery.

off the coast of Massachusetts
yesterday, with its one life raft still
attached.

major traffic pile- ups in two states.

12- people were injured a crash
involving 20 cars and four trucks in

Michigan.

The wreck closed a five- mile stretch
of Interstate- 69, about 50 miles

north of Detroit.

And part of an Indiana highway was
temporarily closed

after a 17- car pileup there, but no
injuries were reported.

One to two feet of snow is possible
in southwest Michigan, near

the Indiana state line.

joined forces yesterday in an effort to
catch two men who led them on a high
speed car chase.

Authorities say they tried to
stop the driver because his tags were
expired.

But instead of stopping....the
driver 18-year-old Barry Miles Junior
took off.

Miles eventually crashed his car
into the Countyside Estates Apartment
complex and escaped on foot.

You can see this created a stir
among some of the neighbors especially
since the suspect tried to hide out in
the apartments.

Police managed to catch him and
charge him for obstruction and driving
on a revoked licenese.

No word on whether they caught
the passenger who also took off on
foot.

A fire yesterday caused extensive
smoke damage throughout the building.

A man had been shot at least once

and most recently was the principal of

Barbaro has suffered another setback in
his recovery.

CATS!...This weekend "the Star
City Cat Fanciers Cat Show was held at
the Holiday Inn on Ordway Drive.

These owners are serious about
their cats.

Nearly 40 breeds were
recognized....from little ones to
hairless ones.

The Roanoke show was one of eight
held this weekend across the country.

On the international scene,
Tokyo, Japan and Austria also hosted

joined forces yesterday in an effort to
catch two men who led them on a high
speed car chase.

Authorities say they tried to
stop the driver because his tags were
expired.

But instead of stopping....the

driver 18-year-old Barry Miles Junior
took off.

Miles eventually crashed his car
into the Countyside Estates Apartment
complex and escaped on foot.

You can see this created a stir
among some of the neighbors especially
since the suspect tried to hide out in
the apartments.

Police managed to catch him and
charge him for obstruction and driving
on a revoked licenese.

No word on whether they caught
the passenger who also took off on
foot.

from Clifton Forge thought our coverage
of the alleged abduction and rape there
was lacking.

"I have watched your broadcast since I
was little. I have to say I'm
disappointed, because you have showed
little coverage of the rape story in
Clifton Forge. There is a rapist on the

loose."

A viewer from Fairlawn let us know she
agrees with Roanoke city's decision to
end its deer management program:

"There has to be a more humane way to
deal with the problem," she wrote. "The
cruelty notwithstanding, it is never a
good precedent to allow the discharge
of firearms in populated areas. This
sends a dangerous message to our young
people. "

to be closed for awhile after a fire
caused extensive smoke damage.

The fire started shortly after 2
