many folks thought tonight's game with

they could fall flat in without much

Wolfpack vs. Hokies Angela Tincher the Hokie softball
all-American was honored at halftime
for her international performance this
past summer.

The Hokies could have used her
fastball in the first half. Ben
McCauley would score with just under 10
minutes to go in the first half and at
that point he had more point than the
entire Tech team.

He got some help from Engin
Atsur, who hits the three pointer as
N.C. State led the entire first half.

In fact, it would have been a
disaster if Zabian Dowdell had not
converted this four point play at the
end of the half to make it a two point
deficit at the break. *CG final N.C. State

In this week's edition of Hometown
Hoops Weekly we take a look at how the
unbeaten Floyd County girls team has
managed to stay on task this season
despite all kinds of adversity.

Their coach's young grandson,
Joshua Cantrell is battling a brain
tumor as is Chance Harman, the son of
the boys' head coach at Floyd.

Needless to say, basketballs and

prayers are launched everyday in this
county.

(END SOT) Alan Cantrell has been coaching

basketball at Floyd County - since he
looked like this - 23 years in all of
coaching and teaching in the Floyd
Community -

NAT SOUND

In that span of time - his teams have
captured three state titles with him on
the bench and this year - they're again
the favorites to win the Group A state

championship.

CANTRELL

NAT SOUND

Coaches on any level constantly preach
to their players to stay focused on the
task at hand and to worry about the
things they can control - following
those instructions has been virtually
impossible this season in Floyd.

CANTRELL

To their credit the coach and his
players have handled both the pressure
of playing with a bulls eye on their
backs and the burden of playing for
their coach and his family with
incredible poise.

CANTRELL

Cantrell and the players have tried to
use basketball as a metaphor to help
them deal with the ordeal Joshua and
Chance are facing. They've already
discovered that things like this bring
out best in people - even your rivals.
