HERE YOU WON'T EVEN FIND CHILDREN OUT
IN A PLAYGROUND WHICH GOT US THINKING
WHERE ARE THE WARMEST PLACES AROUND?

((NAT SOUND OF COFFEE MACHINE))

First up? A coffee shop. Here at
the Daily Grind in Salem, we found
plenty of people looking for a warm cup
of joe.

ERIN CLINEVELL/DAILY GRIND: IT WARMS
YOU FROM HEAD TO TOE.

So much so, they see a significant
jolt in business on cold days like this
one.

We're one of those customers and with
coffee in hand, we head to the next
warm destination.

JUSTIN McLEOD: WE'RE TOLD ONE OF THE
WARMEST PLACES IS THE POOLS HERE AT THE
YMCA IN ROANOKE AND SINCE I DON'T OWN A
BATHING SUIT AND I DON'T LOOK GOOD ONE
IN ANYWAY WE THOUGHT WE'D JUST ASK
PEOPLE HOW WARM IT REALLY IS.

((QUICK NAT SOUND OF FOUNTAIN))

We're told the temperature here in
the pool is 86 degrees, in the hot tub
it's 103.

It's so hot in here it fogged up our

camera but those in the water like the
steamy hot temperatures.

SALLY JOHNSTON: OH IT'S HEAVENLY.

Many would use that word to describe
a trip to the tropics.

Some say the way to go is a Caribbean
cruise.

PAT SALES: PERFECT, PERFECT, READY TO
GO

JUSTIN McLEOD: AND BEFORE YOU GO ON
THAT TROPICAL CRUISE YOU PROBABLY COULD
USE A TAN AND JUDGING BY THE WAY I LOOK
I'M GOING TO NEED A LOT OF SESSIONS.

((NAT SOUND SAYING 36:25, YOU WANT
FIFTEEN MINUTES"))

The folks here at Ocean Tan tell us
customers will come in just to warm up.

BECKY GRUBB/OCEAN TAN: OH WE GET
SLAMMED ON DAYS LIKE TODAY.

AMANDA STUMP/TAN CUSTOMER: WELL THAT'S
THE MAIN REASON I CAME BECAUSE IT'S
LIKE 8 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND IT'S 95 IN
HERE SO IT'S LIKE BEING IN MIAMI WHILE
IN ROANOKE.

But Miami may not be the biggest bang
for your buck.

((QUICK NAT AT MARTIN TRAVEL))

The folks here at Martin Travel say a
cruise may be your best bet.

MEL LUDOVICI/MARTIN TRAVEL: I WOULD
SAY THE LIKELIHOOD OF YOU FINDING A
VALUE IS GOING TO BE IN THE AREA OF
CRUISES AS OPPOSED TO A LAND PACKAGE.>>

this time of year won't be easy.

found her bruised and battered....the
woman says he pulled her by her shirt
collar, dragging her about fifty yards
