after a fire broke out a local day
care.

It happened at the Childcare Network
on Brambleton Avenue just south of Cave
Spring Corners.

Natasha, the day care operator is
trying to figure out if they'll be able
to re-open by Monday.

a whole lot worse especially when you
consider 80 children were inside at the
time of the fire.

Thankfully, everyone got out safely.

The fire broke out around 2:30 on the
leftside of the building.

Firefighters responded quickly since
the firestation is literally right next
door to the Childcare Network.

They quickly got the flames under
control within five minutes.

Firefighters say the real heroes are
the three teachers who got the kids to
safety.

tonight into that deadly fire in
Bedford County.

VO-NAT It claimed the lives of 29

year-old Sharon Ayers and her two
daughters, 11 year-old Ashley Howell
and 4 year-old Jennifer Ayers.

o'clock Wednesday evening.

When family arrived, they prayed
the Ayers wer not trapped inside.

That hope quickly diminshed as
they watched the home collapse.

This tragedy has devastated their
family and say all three will truly be
missed.

Pennsylvania man in a deadly
hit-and-run accident that tied up
traffic for hours on Interstate 81
today.

Authorities say a tractor trailer
sideswiped a passenger car near mile
marker 225 in Augusta County around
8:30 a-m.

The car ran off the road, swerved
back and was hit again by the same
truck which continued on down the road.


67-year-old William Albert Recker
of Palmyra (pol-MY-ruh) was killed.

Another truck driver helped
authorities make the arrest, he spotted
the tractor trailer at a rest stop on
Interstate 66 and alerted authorities.

State Police arrested Wayne
Thomas Ketenheim from Johnstown,
Pennsylvania.

Police say a Mustang hit the side
of a school bus on Draper Valley
Road...19 students were on board at the
time....no one was injured.

The driver of the Mustang was
taken to the hospital with an ankle
injury.

Charges against her are pending.

killed his 15 year old friend is headed
to prison.

20- year old Zach Linkous
was a teenager when he says he
accidentally shot 15 year old Edward
Bertrand with a hand gun.

Linkous says he got the gun from
a friend, hoping to sell it and make
some money.

The judge sentenced him to 13
years for voluntary manslaughter, but
suspended 8 years.

Linkous will get credit for time
served, so he will only spend a little
more than 2 years in jail before
getting out.

Edward Bertrand's family say the
sentence is unfair and not nearly long
enough.

Students Patty O'Toole has been
acquitted in Ohio.

VO-NAT The jury returned the not-guilty

verdict this afternoon.

The facts were never in dispute.

A female student confided in
O'Toole that she'd been sexually
assaulted at the small Catholic College
in Ohio where OToole used to work.

The girl asked O'Toole not to
report it to police, so she didn't.

The D-A filed criminal charges,
contending that five subsequent
assaults could have been prevented if
Dean O'Toole had reported the first
attack.

recognized by the E-P-A today for
efforts to keep raw sewage from
overflowing into the James River.

Beating out localities in five
other states, Lynchburg was chosen for
it's financing and public participation
in the project.

Of the 111- million dollars

points have been corrected, but the
ones that are left will be expensive to
fix.

the Cave Spring District again, this

time as a member of the School Board.

Their opponent Alleghany has been
out of school since Tuesday and the

Fleming came back with a couple
of those seniors - Ryan Pannell finds
Vincent Pierson. He handles the
contact and spin for a bucket inside.

But Alleghany led most of the
first half and at the break thanks to
patience and some nice shooting from
Jay Nagel, who drops in this jumper. *CG final Alleghany

ANIMATION General Assembly honored former Ferrum
great Billy Wagner.

The Tazewell County naitve was
commended for his outstanding big
league career, but more so for his work
back in his home county.

Wagner has helped establish and
support the Second Chance Learning
Center located in Bluefield. The
facility provides counseling and
academic support for children facing
difficult circumstances - much like
Wagner did growing up in Tannersville.
