Physical evidence introduced in court

recovered from a nearby abandoned
house... and a B-B pistol Carter says
his codefendants came up with as they
ransacked Deborah Vaughn's house,
searching for cash.

identified by police.

victim was 32-year-old Hildebrando
Sanches-Diaz.
Diaz was stabbed and pronounced
dead at the scene.
The incident happened on February
3rd around 11:30 p-m.
His body was found inside a

28-year-old Wilmer Hernandez-

Friday afternoon, when a heating unit

one was injured.

The Department of Corrections is
now looking into several acres of land
off Route 58.
The potential site is is near
Cimarron and Dellbrook Lanes, just east
of Independence.

these 170 acres in the Cox's Chapel
community just west of Independence.
But, several residents there are
against the project, saying it would
ruin the beauty of the New River.
State officials say the thousand
bed, medium security facility would

two months to evaluate the new site.

High School this afternoon injured one
person and kept a number of students
from getting home on time.

Bedford was headed south when a truck
pulling a piece of farm equipment lost
control and struck his vehicle.
Robertson was trapped for about a
half hour and then flown to Roanoke
Memorial Hospital.
The wreck forced Liberty High
School officials to reroute buses
around the crash ... some students were
delayed up to an hour.

funding for the new William Fleming
High School.

of signatures to Richmond.

36-thousand signatures, four thousand
of them from the Roanoke Valley.
They call for approval of a
Senate billl that would raise the
minimum wage from 5-15 to 6-50 an hour.
153-thousand Virginians work for
minimum wage.
The current annual pay for a
single full-time worker at minimum wage
is about ten-thousand dollars.

It's been two-years, but its still hard
for Sammy and Jean Minter to talk about
losing Gladys.

Gladys grew into a 140-pound buddle of
joy - and into a true test of a pet's
value.
First doctors found a mass cell tumor
on her right leg.
Then two more. Surgey each time.
And after her third surgery, bigger
complications were discovered. Gladys
had developed what's called, "bloat".

Gladys battled through it, but during
this surgery, doctors found a fourth
tumor and weren't able to remove all of
it. It was then the family OK'd
chemotherapy.

And it worked, but when Gladys came
down with congestive heart failure, the
Minters said their goodbyes and put her
to sleep.
The total cost of her care: well, the
Minters never added it up before, but
her vet did for this story - about
15-thousand dollars.

genetic condition on both eyes.

Jennifer Harvey announced that she will
be attending Virginia Tech to play
soccer for the Lady Hokies.
Besides playing at Cave Spring

championship this past season when she
was named the state's player of the
