men fell through the ice in a lake
north of Bedford City.

Here's a look at where the
accident took place off Simpkins Lake
Road yesterday.

The first man suposedly fell in
the water when his canoe tipped over.

A witness told News 7 she and her
husband weren't far behind.


The husband threw a rope to the
vicitm but it was too short so he went
in for the man and the ice cracked on
him as well.

Both men were taken to the
hospital for treatment.

The wife says when the two were
pulled out, they had a mild case of
hypothermia.

the scene of an accident yesterday.

Workers had to shut down one of
the lanes when a pick-up truck collided
with a city salt truck around 10
yesterday morning.

The salt truck was performing
maintenance at the time.

Emergency rescuers took the
driver of the pick-up to the hospital.

Her name nor condition have been

released.

Charges have not been filed but
the accident is under investigation.

responding to the increased demand of
imported furniture - which has replaced
domestic lines at many companies.

Hooker recently announced next

employment staff to stay financially
sound.

Even so, business analysts
believe Hookers managers are "among the
smartest people in the business."

new alert system might prevent that
from happening.

nearly one and a half million people
65- or older living in Virginia.

To help those with dementia or
other memory illnesses, the House and
Senate have passed bills creating a
Senior Alert system.

The system, designed by State

Police, will help mobilize law
enforcement officers within two hours
once a senior citizen is reported
missing.

expenses on their end have forced them
to pass some of those costs along to
the customer.

The company says it couldn't
GRADUALLY increase the rates, because
this was their first opportunity since
2000 to ask for an increase.

is all about hands-on learning.

That's the approach of its
interactive workshop educating the
public of what it's like to be
disabled.

Amazement Square is trying to aid
that effort- of- understanding by
helping children and adults learn what
it's like to have a disability.

The center's been conducting this
type of workshop for four years.


Amazement Square has items such
as goggles designed to replicate the
different degrees of visual impairment.

There are also instruments, like
braile strips, that demonstrate how
one's other senses become enhanced, if
one or more is impaired.

Canes, braces and a wheelchair
are used to demonstrate limited
mobility.

Amazement Square also takes the
learning experience out into the
community.

emotion they may be feeling.

Also, Amazement Square uses
scented markers to help visually
impaired children experience color.
