the evacuation of a Roanoke middle
school this morning.

Fire crews were called to
Lucy Addison Middle School when an
employee noticed an unusual odor.
No one was injured, but
firefighters did find elevated levels
of Carbon Monoxide in a storage area.
The problem was traced to a piece
of equipment in the gym that had been
charging overnight.
Firefighters ventilated and
inspected the school before the
students and teachers were allowed
back.

getting suspended from Nascar for
cheating during Daytona Qualifying.
But the biggest offender - Michael
Waltrip and his new Toyota that had an
unknown substance in its intake
manifold still needed a trip to the
wood shed.

Speed Waltrip's car was confiscated, so
his team worked on getting his back-up
car ready for tomorrow's Qualifying
Races.
However, the Napa Team had to do
so without their Crew Chief David Hyder
who was tossed out of the raceway as
well as Bobby Kennedy, Waltrip's
Director of Competition.
Waltrip also was docked 100 owner
and 100 driver points. Reports say he
tried to use jet fuel to enhance the
car's performance.

news last night - Frank Beamer's son
Shane is changing jobs in the SEC.
Beamer has joined Steve Spurrier's
staff at the University of South
Carolina to coach outside linebackers
and assist with the special teams.
The 29-year-old Beamer spent the
past three seasons at Mississippi State
where he coached defensive backs and
running backs.

Schoalrship Foundation continues to
receive help from a number of great
folks in the valley and beyond -
incliding the Western Virginia Football
Officials Association.
Last year the group decided to
ask their officials to voluntariliy
donate one game check to the cause.
As a result, the officials have
been able to fund close to four full
one thousand dollar scholarships in two
years with the help of their latest
donation this week.
