Roanoke police were involved in
two shootings over the weekend in
different parts of the city.

One of those shootings ended with
fatal results.

Friday night at 2-3 4-6 King Street.
That's on Roanoke's northeast side near
Gus Nicks Boulevard.

30- year-old Geoffrey Aaron
Stephenson died about three hours
later.

Then early Sunday morning,
another officer opened fire, this time
at a home in the 17-hundred block of
Carroll Avenue, a few blocks from
Orange Avenue on the northwest side.
Police say they were fired on first.

Once the gun smoke cleared,
officers discovered a seven-year-old
child - who was upstairs in the home at
the time - had been shot.

to this house around two A-M after a
9-1-1 call came in reporting a man
inside the home with a gun. When
police arrived they went upstairs to
find the suspect- that's when they say
he fired at Officer J-A Crotts - Crotts
fired back.

Stephenson in NorthEAST Roanoke.

He came out of the house with at

least one gun and a sword.

Though he dropped one of the
weapons, police say Stephenson went for

fatally shot Stephenson.

into a weekend fire which took the life
of one man and sent a woman to the

hospital.

Yesterday Fire officials aren't releasing
names, but according to family members
- Marcus Harper was killed in the fire
which broke out in the 600-block of
Centre Avenue early yesterday morning.

Harper's girlfriend, Rochelle
Preston was also injured in the fire.

Preston is reportedly pregnant.

She's in critical condition at
the UVA Medical Center.

Investigators say the fire
started in an outbuilding where a
mattress was located.

during a hostage situation.

The script for this demonstration

called for an explosion and for police
to storm, then search the bus.

front of a large group of red and white
clad family members and friends from
the Star City. Then at game's end she
found herself getting interviewed on
the ACC television network by none
other than Charlene Curtis - a Roanoke
native and Fleming grad herself.

Khadijah left Fleming before her
senior season and finished at Woodrow
Wilson high in Portsmouth. But she
still considers the Star City home.

Khadijah's move to Portsmouth
confused many, but she did it to be
close to her dad - who had just been
diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease.
Khadijah's says his situation and

watching her head coach battle breast
cancer for the second time in her life
this season - have made her a different
person.

"Muslims of America" commune, one of
several across the country.

One of the commune's private
roads is named "Sheikh Gilani SHAKE
gih-LONN-ee Lane." That has some people
upset, because there is a Shiekh Gilani
on the U.S. government's terrorist
list.

Charlotte County Supervisors last
week voted not to rename the road, but
the Christian Action Network plans a
rally tonight to call more attention to
the question.
