That's the debate over Sheikh
Gilani SHAKE gih-LONN-ee Lane- It's the
access road that leads to the Muslims
of the Americas community in Red House.
It's in a rural area of Charlotte
County about 15 miles south of
Appomattox.
The U-S government considers Gilani a
terrorist who's responsible in large
part for the 1993 bombing of the World
Trade Center.
Last week, Charlotte County
supervisors voted 'not' to change the
name of the road.

seven year old in Roanoke Sunday
apparently did NOT come from city
police.
The city's chief prosecutor
believes the 32-year old suspect- -who
was shot by police- -turned and
deliberately shot the boy.
Cranburn Spence is still in the
hospital, under police guard. He'll be
taken into custody- -for violating
terms of parole from an earlier drug
conviction- -as soon as he's well
enough to be released.

D-N-A from the crime scene had
been rushed through the state lab, but
according to Commonwealth's Attorney

Washburn's attorney says the
continuance will give her a chance to
review the evidence.
The teenager is accused of taking
a woman from Clifton Forge and raping
her in a remote area of Botetourt

of construction off W. River Road near
Dixie Caverns.

It's a cooperative effort between

All face overcrowding in their
current jails. The new one should be in

Pharmaceuticals for about 2-and-a- half
BILLION dollars.
Company C-E-O Randal Kirk says
the deal could generate a lot of money
for the region, because Shire will pay
New River stockholders 64 dollars a
share in cash.
Shire says the deal will give it
full control of a treatment for
attention deficit and hyperactivity
disorder, more commonly called A-D-H-D.
New River is awaiting final F-D-A
approval on Vyvanse (Vi-Vance), a new
drug for treating the disorder.

(END SOT) this week will be nothing new for A.J.
Dowell. He had a standout career at
Salem High School before taking his
game to the next level. Dowell
originally choose to play his college
ball at Hampden Sydney, but his playing
days lasted just one season in
Farmville before deciding that the City
of Champions was a better fit and he
transfered back to the town of Salem to
play at Roanoke College.
That was 2 years ago, now
finishing his Junior Season, Dowell is
the Maroons Second Leading Scorer, and
the move back has been beneficial off
the court as well.

For Now Coach Moir is the man in
Charge of Dowell, but don't rule out a
flip-flop of that situation in the
