GRAPHIC=POLICE SHOOTING Two shootings last weekend have

resulted in four Roanoke city police
officers to go on leave.

VO-NAT One of those shootings ended with

the death of 30 year old Geoffrey Aaron
Stephenson on King Street in Northeast
Roanoke.

That happened Friday night.

The other shooting happened in
Northwest Roanoke early Sunday morning
on Carroll Avenue.

One man was injured along with a
seven year old child.

Police are not releasing the
names or conditions of either.

Neighbors talked about the
seven-year-old and his ten-year-old
brother.

two that morning, reporting a man
inside with a gun.

Friday Night On Friday night -- police were
trying to serve an emergency custody
order on Geoffrey Aaron Stephenson.

They arrived as he was moving out
of his girlfriend's house on King
Street Northeast.

Police say he ignored their
orders to stop and get down on the
ground.

Though he dropped one weapon,
they say he was going for another as
Officer Andrew Pulley shot Stephenson.

The 30-year old died about three
hours later.

Pulley's been placed on leave as
well.

19-year-old Daniel Morris was
killed by a bomb last week in Iraq.

tomorrow evening from 5 to 8 at Henry
Funeral Home in Staunton.

Corporal Morris's funeral will
be held Thursday morning at 11 at New
Providence Presbyterian Church in
Raphine.

He'll be buried in the church

cemetery.

sparked up if a local senator has his
way.

File Tape Delegate Morgan Griffith's bill
that bans smoking in restaurants unless
the owner posts a sign saying "Smoking
Permitted" is before the Senate.

Senator Brandon Bell has filed an
amendment to the bill that takes out
the sign exemption..... changing it to
a ban on smoking in restaurants.

The amendment still doesn't go as
far as Bell's proposal to ban smoking
in *all* public places- which has been
killed by a House subcommittee two
years in a row.

underway on a new football stadium at
Patrick Henry High School.

many said it felt more like a prison

that a drill they conducted yesterday
will pay off in the future.

Roanoke City's SWAT team was out
in full gear to show bus drivers and
aides how to respond during a hostage
situation.

The script for this demonstration
called for an explosion and for police
to storm, then search the bus.

Police impressed upon everyone
not to take matters into their own
hands, but let the SWAT team do its
job.
