GRAPHIC=Police Shooting An investigation indicates that a

gunshot that injured a seven-year-old
boy in Roanoke on Sunday didn't come
from police officer's gun.

The city's chief prosecutor
believes the 32-year old suspect
Cranburn Spence- -who was shot by
police- -turned and deliberately shot
the boy.

Spence is hospitalized, under
police guard.

He'll be taken into custody- -for
violating terms of parole from an
earlier drug conviction- -as soon as
he's well enough to be released.

Sunday The shooting happened around
2-A-M Sunday on Carroll Avenue
Northwest.

Officers were responding to a
domestic disturbance called in by a
10-year old at the home.

Prosecutor Don Caldwell says one

of the officers fired at Spence after
he refused to show his hands and ducked
out of sight.

Victoria Williams ran from the
Bedroom when the shooting started,
thinking her seven year old son was
with her.

Caldwell says he believes Spence
deliberately shot the boy after Spence
himself was struck with a round fired
by decorated police veteran J-A Crotts.

yesteray said yes, before a motion was
made to consider the bill again later

this week.

The measure has already passed
the House.....

It allows school boards to enter
into agreements with non- public
schools to provide students with
transportation for a fee.

Some lawmakers believe it's a
good option.

But Senator Russ Potts calls it
"malfunction junction."

He fears the bill paves a
