GRAPHIC=BRUSH FIRE A brush fire broke out in the
Clearbrook area of Roanoke County last
night.

It happened around six o'clock on
Crowell Gap Road just off of Route 220.
Investigators believe a tree falling
on a power line is what sparked the
fire.
When crews arrived, they were
concerned about two nearby homes, one
is a retirement community, the other
is a residence that was directly in the
line of fire.
In fact, we're told flames came
within fifty yards of that home.
Firefighters were able to protect
both those structures but it wasn't
easy because of the high winds.

The fire is 100-percent contained but
not completely out and that's why a
small crew remained on the scene
throughout the night to deal with any

County...53 years later.

reckless driving yesteray afternoon.
Prosecutors say he hit and killed
George Dalton on a stretch of Route 52
back in 1953.
Brady says he never knew exactly
what happened that night, but thought
he should clear his conscience just
before having open heart surgery.

Several of Dalton's family
members said they didn't want Brady to

making people sick in Virginia.

cases of Salmonella have now been
traced to peanut butter.
That number is up from 17 a week
ago.
Nine of those cases come from
Southwest Virginia.
Officials say the affected jars
of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut
butter were pulled off store shelves
nationwide last week...but they could
still be in your pantry.
The jars you want to throw away

in Iraq.

Michael Dunkin was killed Monday when
the vehicle he was in was struck with
an improvised explosive device.
Dunkin graduated in 1999.

half-staff ,and they're working on a
memorial.

Washburn is accused of taking a woman
from Clifton Forge and raping her in a
remote section of Botetourt County last
month.
DNA results released Wednesday
failed to exclude him as a suspect. The
report also indicated the chance of
someone else having the same DNA is one
in more than six billion.
Radford University Professor Tod
Burke hasn't reviewed evidence in the
Washburn case, but says DNA results can
help prosecutors prepare a convincing
case.
