a brush fire that started Thursday is
now completely out.

o'clock on Crowell Gap Road just off
Route 220.

Investigators believe the fire
started from a downed power line.

Crews had been keeping eye on it
to make sure it didn't rekindle.

This brush fire in Roanoke County
burned just 3 acres but it's intenses
flames and quick moving nature made it
challenging for fire fighters.

At one point coming within 50
yards of this home.

THE INCREASED NUMBER OF FIRES THAT WE
HAD IS DUE TO THE WIND EVENT. TYPICALLY
UNDER THE STRONG WINDS THAT WE HAVE HAD
SINCE THURSDAY. POWER LINE FIRES ARE
MORE FREQUENT AND COMMON.

low humidity and warm temperatures have
been the ideal recipe for these type
fires.

Local departments have also been
responding to their share of smaller
brush burns.

This is the first major one of
the season for Roanoke County.

They know that could change at
anytime but their goal remains the

Hollani, The Virginia Department
of Forestry says at least 50 percent of
fires are started by debris burning.

So the agency wants to remind
everyone to use extreme care when
burning outside.
