A Roanoke man accused of
accidentally running over and killing a
Virginia Tech student entered a guilty
plea today to involuntary manslaughter.

admit his guilt, but he does recognize
there's enough evidence to convict him.
Pierce says he entered the plea
to avoid a trial and to bring closure
for both families.

we have finally learned what police
believe happened to 18 year old Brian
McCloskey.
In November of 2005 McCloskey was drunk
at a party on Christine Court and left
sometime around midnight.
His body was found here in the early
morning hours along a walking trail. He
died in the hospital five days later.
Police say he'd been run over by a
vehicle.
Aaron Pierce admits to driving people
to and from the party that night and to
using the walking trail as a shortcut.
He was driving this borrowed Ford
Excursion. Police were able to match
bolts on the underside of the vehicle
to injuries on McCloskey's back.

fugitive today hidden in the attic of a
home not far from the V-A Hospital.

interviews at 928 Dominion Lane...on an
unrelated investigation, when they
realized Jovan Terrell Ellison was
hiding in the attic.
The 19-year old fugitive refused
to come out.
With the help of a Roanoke City

custody.
He been wanted for robbery and
failure to appear in court.

this morning left one woman critically
injured.

in the northbound lane of Route 122
near Moneta to make a left turn onto
Route 801.
That's when a truck towing a
flatbed trailer came up behind the car
and couldn't stop ... so the driver
swerved into the southbound lane,
colliding with a pickup truck.
The pickup's driver was flown to
Roanoke Memorial Hospital ... her name
is "not" being released.
Route 122 was closed in both
directions for several hours.

Gutersloh is accused of killing 23-
year old Radford University student
Lori Pleasants,
Her body was found by friends in
her apartment in June of 2000.
In opening statements today, the
Commonwealth's Attorney said this case
is not about science but about human
nature and loose lips.
The state plans to present
evidence that Gutersloh told two
friends and co-worker that he indeed
killed Pleasants.
However, defense attorneys say
the case is all about science and it
excludes Gutersloh.
Gutersloh is also charged with
defiling a corpse.
Today, the medical examiner took
the stand and said the crime scene
appeared staged....and that her wrists
were cut after death.

table.

withdrawn a request to rezone about 150
acres for 25 homes and cottages.
The Palisades are historic cliffs
along the New River in Eggleston.
Several nearby landowners were
concerned about what the development
would mean for the landmark and the New
River.
The Smiths withdrew their plan
late last week, and they didn't want to
say why.

several famous art pieces were unveiled
at the Roanoke Art Museum this morning.

The collection named "Gifts"
features 39 pieces of artwork.
The exhibit includes paintings,
prints, sculptures, and photography.
Three oil paintings were the main
attraction at the event -- including
"Framed", a famous painting by Norman
Rockwell.
The art was bought with funds
from the Horace G. Fralin charitable
trust.
The "Gifts" collection opens to
the public tomorrow.

Lynch and J.J. Redick put Roanoke on
the national map in professional sports
- George Preas was Roanoke's favorite
son.
This weekend, the former Hokie
and Baltimore Colt passed away at South
Roanoke Nursing home after a lengthy,
courageous battle with Parkinson's
disease.
He was as "Roanoke" as you can
get. He played Sandlot ball in Fallon
Park and later starred at Jefferson
High School and Virginia Tech before
joining the Colts in 1955.

OQ=....WAS 73 YEARS OLD." << Preas was a member of Baltimore's
(END SOT) first ever world championship teams in
1958 and 1959.
He played offensive line on those
teams helping protect his good friend
Johnny Unitas, who is shown here in
July of 1964 helping Preas give a
football clinic at Victory Stadium.

Preas and the Colts also played
the Steelers at Victory Stadium back in
1961.
And after the 1958 season, Preas
was voted the Colts' "Unsung Hero
Award."
The Gentle Giant was part of the
1954 Hokies' team that went unbeaten
with an 8-0-and-1 record that season -
the last unbeaten team before the 1999
squad at Tech went 11 and 0 in the
regular season.
Preas, was well into his battle
with Parkinson's disease at that time
but still took time to speak with us
about his pride in the Hokies.
In September of 2003, the Hokies
honored him during the Texas A&M game,
and although George was unable to
attend - his wife and son expressed his
pride and appreciation.
BITES
Preas is a member of the Tech
hall of fame and the Virginia Sports
Hall of Fame in Portsmouth where the
number 60 uniform he wore during his
final season with the Colts in encased
in glass.
