John Paul Jones Arena The Hokies have never played
:00 inside the new John Paul Jones arena,
but somehow they already have left
their mark on the floor of the $35
million dollar facility.
In one of the corners right along
the baseline officials have discovered
the VT logo carefully etched into the
hardwood.
However, it appears that the
etching is UNDER the finish of the
floor, so apparently it was done before
the floor even arrived in
Charlottesville - and that means it has
been there all season long.

OQ=...FERNCLIFF DR." LAUGH << Meet Derlin Kumbi - one of
(END SOT) William Fleming's inside enforcers.
He's a part-time starter who plays to
the whistle on every single play.

Kumbi looks and sounds just like
the rest of his Fleming teammates, but
on senior night - trust me - the
six-foot four inch foreign exchange
student was the only one introduced
whose home address was listed as
Stockholm, Sweden.
MARSHALL ASHFORD 32720
MICKEY HARDY 32523
DERLIN KUMBI 33119 or 33355
Kumbi hopes to stay in the states
and attend college here but right now
he's focused on keeping the Colonels'
season alive in the state tournament
with his hustle and continuing his
adjustment to hoops in the states.
DERLIN 33320
His coach knows a little about
making moves to further one's
basketball career. After starring at
William Byrd - Hardy played two years
at Ferrum and then migrated to Virginia
Tech where he finished up his career in
the early 80s under Charlie Moir.
Getting Kumbi has certainly
opened his eyes to the exchange student
process.

New activity on Stromboli, off
the Sicily coast, brought a warning
from officials that it could cause a
repeat of the small tidal wave that
caused widespread damage in 2002.
That happened when an eruption
released a landslide that crashed into
sea.
Video shot from a helicopter
overnight showed glowing amber-coloured
lava oozing down the slopes of the
volcano.
By dawn, clouds of steam billowed
out of the side of the volcano and
bubbled up as seawater quenched the
molten rock.
