Eastwood Assisted Living in Roanoke
were tested yesterday and today for an
infectious bacterium.

testing after one of the residents, who
died Tuesday turned out to have Group A
Streptococus.

man accused of murdering his ex
girlfriend at a Walmart.

did NOT decide if Rodney Startz will be
able to take back his guilty plea to

the first degree murder of Donna
Angelo.

The judge also granted the
defense another mental evaluation to
see if Startz is competent to stand
trial.

Police say he walked into the
Fairlawn Walmart last year and shot
Angelo in the head.

Startz has said he stopped
talking antidepressants shortly before
the shooting...and the side effects are
what drove him to murder.

The Elliston man is serving a 38-year
sentence for molesting his girlfriend's
daughter.

The 10-year old girl was the only
witness at trial. She later told her

therapist she made up the story.

The Virginia Supreme Court today
refused to overturn Carpitcher's
conviction.

The Court said Carpitcher had
established only that "the victim spoke
falsely on one or more occasions."

carjacking incident four years ago.

Ryan Taboada was shot while checking
into the Holiday Inn Express.

Judge Clifford Weckstein said the hotel

to stop a dangerous equine illness.

Sky Meadows and Shenandoah
River State Parks in Northern Virginia
will be closed to horses until March
12. All other state parks will remain
open to horses.


The state is trying to stop the
spread of Equine Herpes Virus-One. The
only cases, so far, have been in
Northern Virginia.

The Virginia Horse Center in
Lexington cancelled the Virginia
Intermont Classic scheduled for March 8
through the 11th out of caution.
However, the Horse Center is open and
all other events are still on as
scheduled.

of business last night at the John Paul
Jones arena against Virginia Tech and
then got some unexpected help from
Georgia Tech two hours later when the
Yellow Jackets sting North Carolina.

As a result, UVA now controls its
own destiny - a win tomorrow over Wake
Forest and the Cavs are the undisputed
ACC regular season champs.

Their win last night made the
Cavs the only ACC team this season to
win all of its conference games at

home.

trumpet rendition of the national

anthem. The competition then began
with 448 wrestlers competing in 784
bouts to crown 28 state champions this
weekend. In the double A ranks,
Christiansburg is a solid favorite to
take home its 6th consecutive team
title, but it would be the first for
Blue Demons first year head coach Daryl
Weber.

DARYL:

In single A, Glenvar has a qualifier in
13 of the 14 weight classes this
weekend. The Highlanders are aiming to
dethrone three time defending champ
Manassas Park. Jamie Soltis has a
senior laden team with lots of
experience, finishing 3rd in each of
the past two years. A championship
would be the first for the school since
1972.
