County....to find a Lynchburg teenager
dead after his truck hit a tractor
trailer head on.

Around 4, state police say the
18-year-old was headed east on Route
130 when he ran off the side of the
road, overcorrected and veered into the
path of a tractor trailer.

The teen's pickup and the semi
collided head-on ... the force of the
crash tearing the pickup truck's engine
from its compartment.

Police say it's a typical
scenario for these kinds of accidents.

One reason is there are more open
dates because the Dazzle and Vipers are
no longer in Roanoke.

cruelty cases seems to be on the rise.

were seized in neglect and cruelty
investigations.

That number went up to 64 in
2006.

Three modular sections built by
Southern Heritage Homes in Rocky Mount
were trucked to the lot on Gilmer
Avenue this morning.

A crew from Lee-Hi Crane and
Rigging lifted the boxes from their
trailer, and lowered them onto a new
foundation.

Designed to fit in with the
neighborhood, the new home also
includes building materials that are

energy efficient and environmentally
friendly.

Blue Ridge Housing Development
Corporation hopes to hold a ribbon
cutting in early May.

postseason awards continue to roll in
concerning men's basketball in the ACC.

year award.

This Season Dave Leitao, the second year :00 Virginia coach received 64 votes from
the Atlantic Coast Media members to
easily outdistance Gary Williams of
Maryland and Tech's Seth Greenberg for
the honor.

Leitao took a guard dominated
team that was picked to finish no
better than 8th in the ACC this season
and ended up tied for first place in

the regular season.

He is the first Virginia coach to
receive the award since Terry Holland
in 1982. Holland also received the
award in 1981 and Bill Gibson was
honored in 1972.

Leitao, who is known for his
tough love - will lead Virginia into
it's ACC opener on Friday night against
the winner of the Duke - N.C. State
game.

Tech as senior guard Jamon Gordon was
named this year's recipient, with his
running mate Zabian Dowdell finishing
in a tie for second with Maryland's
D.J. Strawberry.

This Season Gordon received 54 of a possible :00 106 votes by members of the Atlantic

Coast Sports Media Association.
Dowdell and Strawberry got just 12
apiece.

Gordon averaged an ACC-best two
and a half steals per game this season,

career steals list at Virginia Tech
behind only Dell Curry.

Gordon and the Hokies open the
ACC tournament Friday night at 9:30
here on WDBJ-7 against the Georgia
Tech-Wake Forest winner.
