confession. Convicted murdered William
Gutersloh, admitted to killing Lori
Pleasants yesterday.

Just before jurors were to decide
his sentence, Gutersloh took the stand

Gutersloh told the jury he
accidentally killed Pleasants, by
choking her during sex.

He says he panicked and grabbed a
knife from the kitchen to make her
death look like a suicide.

Jurors still came back with the

maximum sentence... life in prison.

They also gave him five years for
defiling a corpse.

house fire over the weekend.

and his friend Byron Jamerson died when
Cunningham's off-campus home caught
fire.

Another student helped three
other people escape the burning
building.

The tragedy has left many of
their friends and teachers in shock ...

Western Virginia's furniture industry.

Bassett furniture is
cutting 15-percent of its workforce.

manufacturing plant in Henry County--
Bassett's largest plant in the same
town that bears its name.

Company officials say most
of the products currently made there
will be moved overseas.

About 280 employees will
begin losing their jobs in the next 60
to 90 days.

15-hundred Bassett employees in
Virginia and North Carolina.

County.

The developers would like to turn
this empty lot into an outdoor
amphitheater built to seat seven
thousand.

Last night, the counties'

planning commission held a public
hearing on the idea.

But earlier in the day, those we
spoke with told News 7, they're all for
the entertainment venue.

The amphitheater would be
privately operated, and could employ up
to 50 people per function.

If approved, the owners would
like to see it up and running by April
2008.

stranger to marching in big parades.

Just two years ago, the group
performed at President Bush's
inauguration.

Now, there's a new honor.

The band will march in the St.
Patrick's Day Parade in New York.

Community have now been tested.

Assisted Living.

The latest were not
experiencing any symptoms and are now
being treated with antibiotics.

The situation first came to
light last week when a former resident
of Eastwood, who had died, was found to
have had Strep-A.

In a statement released
yesterday, Martinsville Police Chief
Mike Rogers said leaving the
Martinsville P-D after 27 years of
service would simply be too hard.

Rogers goes on to say he is proud
of the accomplishments the department
has made as far as reducing crime in
the area, and would like to continue
that work.

The chief says he hopes to work
closely with the newly- elected sheriff
this November but will not endorse any
candidate.
