This is not the only fraudulent

institution's name and likeness.

In fact, Suntrust's real website
outlines several phishing scams
delivered to unsuspecting email boxes.

The claims range from verifying
your profile to account suspension.

Each time, the tactic is the same
as in all phishing scams... to fool
people into typing in their personal

to its customers...

TAKE FS GFX

*CG 11502 TAKE FS GFX

Look beyond the logo.

Scammers often include actual
logos and images of legitimate
companies and also convey a sense of
urgency, stating that if you fail to
provide, update, or verify your

to your accounts will be suspended.
TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX

Use your spam filter.

They can help you minimize the
number of fraudulent emails in your
inbox.

TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX

Type, don't click.

By clicking on the links, you
could unknowingly download a virus or
spyware to your computer.

Even if you think the email is
legitimate, type Web addresses into
your browser instead of clicking on
links.
TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX

Change your online passwords
often.

The rule of thumb is to change
your password every 30 to 60 days.

And be creative with your
passwords
TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX

Update your anti-virus and
anti-spam software.

That way you make it more
difficult for scammers to access your
personal and account information.

You also want to delete emails
from unknown senders.

And keep in mind that scammers
use these same tactics to rip people
off over the phone and through direct

mailings.

SCAM ALERT ANIMATION Kimberly, we have another case of
phishing emails being sent... to me and
countless others.

A few weeks ago, I received an
email from a scammer alledging to be
from the University of Virginia
Community Credit Union.

More recently, I received another
phishing email claiming to be from
Suntrust.

ENG#=1 TAKE SOT

TAKE SOT Important Notice: Verify Your

In: Important notice Profile!

That's the heading in the subject
line of the scam email I received.

How do I know it's a scam...
first starters, I don't have an account
with Suntrust.

This is not the only fraudulent
pitch out there using the financial
institution's name and likeness.

In fact, Suntrust's real website
outlines several phishing scams
delivered to unsuspecting email boxes.

The claims range from verifying
your profile to account suspension.

Each time, the tactic is the same
as in all phishing scams... to fool
people into typing in their personal
and financial information.

Suntrust warns consumers not to
respond to these types of emails.

There are several steps one can
take to avoid falling prey to phishing
scams.

Here are some Suntrust suggests
to its customers...

TAKE FS GFX

*CG 11502 TAKE FS GFX

Look beyond the logo.

Scammers often include actual
logos and images of legitimate
companies and also convey a sense of
urgency, stating that if you fail to
provide, update, or verify your
personal or account information, access
to your accounts will be suspended.
TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX

Use your spam filter.

They can help you minimize the
number of fraudulent emails in your
inbox.
TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX

Type, don't click.

By clicking on the links, you
could unknowingly download a virus or
spyware to your computer.

Even if you think the email is

legitimate, type Web addresses into
your browser instead of clicking on
links.
TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX

Change your online passwords
often.

The rule of thumb is to change
your password every 30 to 60 days.

And be creative with your
passwords
TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX

Update your anti-virus and
anti-spam software.

That way you make it more
difficult for scammers to access your
personal and account information.

LIVE=BOB FULL AT BAM LIVE FULL

You also want to delete emails
from unknown senders.

And keep in mind that scammers
use these same tactics to rip people
off over the phone and through direct
mailings.

If anyone has a question about
material they receive they should
simply contact the branch that they
normally deal with.
