database. This comes after the
newspaper took a lot of "heat" from

So much so, employees even posted the
Roanoke Times editorial on the cash
register.

River Valley Current.

In it, the writer highlighted the
difficulty of obtaining public
information, for example, who has a
concealed handgun permit.

But the paper went a step further and
created an online database that
included a list everyone in the state
who has a concealed permit.

The database angered a lot of

writer who wrote the editorial.

There were also calls to boycott the
paper's advertisers.

By the end of the day, the Times
released a statement to News 7 saying

pleaded no contest to molesting two
former students.

was found guilty of two counts of
carnal knowledge and one count of
non-forcible sodomy.

and was at one point a teacher of the
year in Carroll County.

Prosecutors say Patton molested
two 13 year old boys in her home in
January and August of 2006.

She will remain out on bond,

after a two-car crash in Lynchburg late
this afternoon.

the intersection of Concord Turnpike
and Pleasant Valley Road.

Police say 32-year-old Jesse Lee
Doss the Third of Madison Heights died

when his Chevy pickup collided with a
Jeep Liberty.

A person in the Jeep was taken to
the hospital with non-life-threatening
injuries.

The accident remains under
investigation and anyone who may have
seen what happened is urged to contact
the Lynchburg police.

chief might be out of a job.

say it was a personnel matter.

But according to Police Chief
Lynn Frith, it's a personal matter that
concerns, her, him and Hogan's husband

finally came to a head two weeks ago
when the mayor ordered him to crack
down on speeders along 2-20.

The chief said in doing so, one

from federal officials.

They are reducing the money the
agency must reimburse by 600- thousand
dollars.

and Urban Development found problems
with a number of contracts the housing

Asked to reconsider the penalty,

People rushed to help the pilot out

was announced tonight and as expected
neither Virginia Tech nor UVA made the
field.

Six ACC teams got in including
Maryland, Duke, UNC, N.C. State,
Florida State and Georgia Tech.

The state did get two teams in
the tourney in Old Dominion and James
Madison.

The JMU Dukes are 27 and 5 and
seeded 9th.

If the Dukes beat Pittsburgh in

their opener - they will likely play
the Lady Vols of Tennessee..

history today as Marlin Ikenberry's
baseball team was ranked 30th in the
nation by Collegiate baseball.

VMI have seven straight games and
are off to the best start in school
history.

This marks the first time a VMI
baseball team has ever been ranked in
the national polls.

VMI plays at number 10 Auburn
tomorrow.

2005 When word got out a couple of
years ago about plans to build a mall
on 72 acres adjoining Poplar Forest, a
campaign emerged to save it from
commercial development.

Today the Foundation announced
the challenge has been met, thanks to a
number of of private donations,
including $20 from Mrs. Bailey's class
at Wasena Elementary school.

Those kids were fourth-graders at
the time- -so they're in Middle School
now... but they can claim a propriety
interest.
