trouble after police say he let his pit
bull loose.
Then that pit bull apparently
tried to attack an officer.
Authorities say the policeman
originally went to the address to help
a person get their car back.
That's when Carl Gillespie Junior
came out of the house, so did his dog,
and it went straight for the officer.
The officer said he fired a shot
at the pit bull but missed.
No one was hurt but Gillespie
will now have to answer for his and his
dog's action in court next month.

Congress passed the act in 2005
to improve national security, but
states just received a list of
regulations this month.
Kent Willis served on Governor
Mark Warner's Real ID task force.
He along with DMV officials and
others reported serious concerns about
the plan to the federal government
early last year.
The concerns included taxpayer
costs, long wait times at service
centers and the protection of personal
information that will be entered into a
massive new database.

September 2005 The state government is working
with veterinarians and animal-welfare
organizations to create a network for
helping pet owners find shelter with
their animals during a disaster.
A federal law signed by the
President last fall requires states and
localities to plan for pets -- or risk
losing money from FEMA.
In response, the General
Assembly passed a law requiring the
state to include provisions for pets
and farm animals in the state
emergency-response plan.
