We begin tonight with some
breaking news -- the police chief of
Boones Mill will keep his job, but in
the process, the mayor and one council
member have resigned.

VO-NAT According to chief Lynn Frith he

and the mayor have been fighting ever
since she ordered him to ticket more
speeders on Route 220.

The chief said in doing so one of
the first people he caught flying down
the highway was the mayor's husband,
Robert.

Currently the chief remains in a
closed session with council.

the little town.

In fact, a lot of drivers refer
to Boones Mill as a "speed trap" but
that may not be the case anymore.

The numbers show the town made
over 32 thousand dollars off of
speeders in the late nineties.

Last year they didn't even make
half that.

And that's one reason Chief
Lynn Frith says his job is in jeopardy.

manager has submitted his resignation.

Robert Collins' resignation is
effective April 22nd.

In a statement released today,
Collins said "a chance to work outside
of municipal government is available
and I feel that I should pursue this
new opportunity."

Collins came to Martinsville in
July of 20-04...succeeding 10 year city
manager Earl Reynolds.

One of the tools at the city's
disposal is the use of eminent domain
... forcing a property owner to sell
his house at a price determined by the
courts.

Housing Authority usually handles about
eight cases like this a year, so it was
unusual to bring four to city council
in one night.

homes in the city, these are the worst

pieces of evidence kept out of his

murder trial.

The well known photographer is
charged with first degree murder in the
death of 19 year old Marion Franklin.

In June of 2003, Franklin died
from an apparent drug overdose after a
photo shoot in Shell's Radford studio.

His attorney is now trying to
keep Shell's three computers, pictures
from the night of Franklin's death and
the morphine bottle out of the jury
trial.

They say police mishandled
evidence.

Police, rescue personnel and a
nurse testified today that they did not
tamper with any evidence.

Judge Joey Showalter will rule in
a few weeks.

accused of propositioning a 10- year-
old girl has accepted a plea deal in
Roanoke County.

accepted a plea agreement today where
he'll be given credit for time served,
another charge will be dismissed and a
five-year sentence will be suspended.

pornography.

Meanwhile, the victims family
says today's decision helps end a rough

permit holder in Virginia.

The paper's removed the database,

bomb squad was called out to the home
of Christian Trejbal (Trey-bal) after
he received a package he considered
suspicious.

A K-9 unit and an x-ray machine
determined the package was harmless.

top legal counsel.

Delegate Dave Nutter has written
a letter to the Attorney General after
receiving dozens of calls from
constituents.

This comes after the paper ran an
editorial Sunday and posted on-line all
135-thousand concealed weapons permit

holders in the state.

In the letter, Nutter asks if the
posting of this information violated
any state laws, as well as if state
police acted correctly by releasing the
list.

Nutter says it may take a month
for the Attorney General's Office to
respond.

Preparedness Day, and we wanted to find
out if people are truly prepared.

poll, 81% say their household would
know what to do if a tornado warning
was issued.

Likewise, 73% of those polled say
they have a safe place to go during
severe weather.

Most of those surveyed get their
warnings from TV or Radio, while 2%

Speaking of sirens. Bedford City
made the first full test of its new
emergency siren this morning.

The high pitched device was
installed last year to alert citizens
within the city limits of immediate
weather and chemical threats.

Students at nearby Bedford Middle
School used the siren as a cue to
practice their tornado drill.

people from this region complain about
higher electric bills.

has received more than 25- thousand
complaint calls, e-mails and letters
from western Virginia- about Applachian
Power.

A rate increase that took effect
in November has sent residential bills
soaring.

In fact, customers bills have
gone up between 21 percent to 35
percent.

is too high, customers would get their
money back with interest.

Parker Powertrain announced
today that the plant in Iron Gate will
close by September 30th.

The company says the decision
was made reluctantly and it was trying
to provide employees with as much
notice as possible.

The plant makes piston seals
for automobile engines.

The work will be consolidated
with other Parker plants.
