quickly led to fire and chaos at a

"There are people hollering for their

while the explosions were going on

with the smoke, they had to crawl

The fire at Davie Place Residential

critically injured and about a

dozen residents were treated for other
undisclosed injuries.

Sot: Beth Dirks/Assistant Davie County

"we are very sympathetic to the family

Local officials wouldnt take
questions at a early morning briefing,

but said the cause of the blast and
fire has yet to be determined.

Investigators from several agencies are
now at the scene searching for

clues. Residents who didnt require
medical treatment have been moved

to another facility about 25 miles
away. And with considerable damage

at Davie place .. it could be some time
before they can return.

GRAPHIC=FALWELL, JERRY The Reverend Jerry Falwell

intends to buy a financially troubled
T-V station here in the region.

Liberty University's board of
trustees authorized a six million
dollar buyout of W-D-R-L T-V.

The station would televise
Liberty's religious and sporting
events, along with shows from
nationally-known conservative
preachers.

Falwell says the studio would
eventually be moved to Lynchburg, but
fthe sale must first be approved by the
U-S bankruptcy court and the F-C-C.
