GRAPHIC=Legal Scales An Amherst County minister won't
serve any prison time for molesting a
teenage boy he was tutoring.
It happened when 70-year-old
Kenneth Payne was pastor of New
Prospect Baptist Church.
Payne was convicted in January of
taking indecent liberties with the
17-year-old he was helping through the
county's Homebound School program.
Payne was given a five-year
suspended sentence today, with two
years of supervised probation.
He'll also have to register as a
sex offender.

toughest stance in the country against
cigarette smoking.
Lighting up almost anywhere in
the city could soon be banned.

smoke.

Lance Mackey won the
Iditarod-Trail Sled-Dog-Race last
night.
He also becomes the first musher
to win major long distance North
American sled dog races back to back.
Mackey crossed under the famed
burled arch in downtown Nome.
He completed the 11-hundred mile
Iditarod in just over nine days.
Mackey told reporters that this
is his passion and he is proud to
follow in his father's footsteps.
