Democrats will wage the next round in
their battle to get U-S troops out of
Iraq on the House floor. (Rep. John
Murtha (D-PA)) MURTHA we're trying to
work out a reasonable way to redirect
the effort Thursday the House
Appropriations committee approved a
measure that would require U-S combat
troops to withdrawal from Iraq by
September 2008. It's attached to a war

spending bill now headed for the full
House. Speaking at a Washington
fundraiser President Bush pushed back
against Democrats. BUSH 18:48:13 Some
in the Congress are using this bill as
an opportunity to micro-manage our
military commanders, or to force a
precipitous withdrawal in Iraq The
president was able to praise Thursday's
big vote on the other side of the
Capitol. A Senate bill that would have
required a troop withdrawal to begin
within 120 days fell 12 votes short of
the 60 it needed for passage. (Sen.
Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Senate Minority
Leader) MCCONNELL 17:09:18 I think it's
clear now a majority of the senate
opposes a deadline for removal of the
troops Senate Democrats say they'll
keep fighting to bring the troops home.
(Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE)) BIDEN 17:01:02
I predict to you that before we get
through the summer, the Republicans are
going to understand they cannot
continue to choose the president over
the troops While the wrangling
continues in Washington.. there's word
that the new commander of U-S forces in
Iraq is calling for still more troops.

CLOSE: The Boston Globe reports that
General David Petraeus is looking for
as many as three-thousand more soldiers
to support the more than 26-thousand
that are part of the President's troop
build-up. Tracie Strahan, News 7.

Appropriations committee approved a
measure that would require U-S combat
troops to withdrawal from Iraq by
September 2008. It's attached to a war
spending bill now headed for the full
House. Speaking at a Washington
fundraiser President Bush pushed back
against Democrats. BUSH 18:48:13 Some
in the Congress are using this bill as
an opportunity to micro-manage our
military commanders, or to force a
precipitous withdrawal in Iraq The
president was able to praise Thursday's
big vote on the other side of the
Capitol. A Senate bill that would have
required a troop withdrawal to begin
within 120 days fell 12 votes short of
the 60 it needed for passage. (Sen.
