For just the second time since the

Winthrop was the last of the teams

Last year, number eleven George

Protests continue today following a
weekend of marches from coast to coast.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators
called on the Democratically-led
Congress to take a tougher stance and
bring troops home now.

The Bush administration maintains the
new troop build-up aimed at curbing
violence in Baghdad needs to be given a
chance to work.

A major recall of pet food has dog and

cat owners worried and scrambling to
find substitutes.

The recall covers what s known as "cuts
and gravy" style wet food sold in cans
and small foil pouches from December
3rd to March 6th.

The Canadian-based manufacturer
suspects a wheat ingredient may be
causing kidney failure in some animals.

The food is sold under more than 40
brands, including Iams, Nutro and
Eukanuba.

(wipevo)

It s wingspan is wider than a football
field and it can seat more than 500
passengers.. and it s headed for the
U-S.

The Airbus A-380 super-jumbo jet is
scheduled to make a ground-breaking
flight today.. leaving from Frankfurt,
Germany and landing at New York s
Kennedy airport.

The flight will be full of Lufthansa
employees and reporters.. but will
operate just like a commercial one.

After J-F-K.. the Airbus A-380 heads
for Chicago s O Hare.

In 2003 the U-S roared into Iraq with

of fighting.. American soldiers are
still rolling into Baghdad.

Theyre part of a troop surge.. an
effort to reign in the violence and

eventually end the war thats claimed
more than 32-hundred American

lives and killed more than 50-thousand
Iraqis.

(NAT- 15:41:10 support our troops-

thousands of protestors took to the

immediate end to the war.

being placed on so few in this country

Demonstrators want Democrats who now
hold the reigns in Congress to take

action. The House DOES plan a vote this
week on a war spending bill that

includes a troop withdrawal deadline of
September 2008.

President Bush has already promised a

veto.. and the administration is

doing all it can to prevent the bill
from reaching his desk.

will depend on Iraqis working out

their political differences.. the U-S

According to a new study in the medical

The American Heart Association has

In 2003 the U-S roared into Iraq with

Theyre part of a troop surge.. an
effort to reign in the violence and

eventually end the war thats claimed
more than 32-hundred American

lives and killed more than 50-thousand
Iraqis.

Demonstrators want Democrats who now
hold the reigns in Congress to take

September 2008.

President Bush has already promised a

SPOILS THE SCENERY. JAPAN'S ICONIC
MOUNTAIN HAS A GARBAGE PROBLEM.... A
STARK CONTRAST TO A COUNTRY KNOWN FOR
ITS CLEANLINESS. Mount Fuji is known
around the world. Many foreigners
visit, especially in the summer. When
they come to climb it, they see rubbish
like this. It's embarrassing. FOR
MOUNTAINEER KEN NOGUCHI, THE TRASH IS A
DISGRACE... AND THE INSPIRATION FOR A
GLOBAL CRUSADE TO CLEAN UP WHAT HE
CLIMBS. NOGUCHI IS JAPAN'S MOST FAMOUS
ALPINIST... AT ONE TIME THE YOUNGEST
MAN TO SUMMIT THE WORLD'S SEVEN HIGHEST
PEAKS. SCALING MOUNT EVEREST FOR THE
FIRST TIME, HE FOUND THE HIMALAYAN
WONDER WASN'T EXACTLY WHAT HE EXPECTED.
Before going, I always saw images of
beautiful Everest on TV. I thought it
would be like that. But once I got
there, I found litter everywhere.
CLIMBERS LEAVE BEHIND PLENTY..MUCH OF
THE RUBBISH BEARING JAPANESE LABELS.
NOGUCHI SET OUT TO CLEAN IT UP. JAPAN:
MOUNT FUJI/CLEAN CLIMBER OVER SEVERAL

EXPEDITIONS, HIS INTERNATIONAL TEAM HAS
REMOVED EIGHT TONS OF TRASH FROM
EVEREST -- HARDLY AN EASY JOB AT THOSE
ALTITUDES. You carry the garbage from 8
thousand meters down to 6 thousand
meters again and again for two months.
It's really hard, especially when
temperatures are up and there is one
avalanche after another. I worried I
may become garbage myself! (laughs)
NOGUCHI HAS SINCE TURNED HIS ATTENTION
CLOSER TO HOME... HE LEADS A LOCAL CLUB
ON FREQUENT CLEANUP TRIPS, HOPING TO
RESTORE THE NATURAL BEAUTY. STANDUP The
volunteers are finding some of the last
things you'd ever expect to see at the
base of Mount Fuji. You have a 27 inch
television set... a computer monitor...
a collection of car batteries. And
that's after only fifteen minutes of
cleaning. WITHIN HOURS, THE TRASH IS
PILED HIGH... A SURPRISING SIGHT...
EVEN FOR SEASONED CLIMBERS. I have
climbed many mountains in Japan, he
says, but this one has the most
garbage. Most climbers have good
etiquette..but there are many visitors,
and some heartless people dump their
trash here. STILL, SEVEN YEARS OF

SCRUBBING ARE PAYING OFF...
PARTICULARLY AT THE UPPER REACHES.
THOUGH FEW WILL EVER REACH THE HEIGHTS
HE'S EXPERIENCED, NOGUCHI HOPES TO
INSPIRE PEOPLE TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF
THE SLOPES. An alpinist goes into
dangerous conditions. But the most
important thing is to never give up.
It's the same with environmental
problems. You can't do it all by
yourself, but if you get a group of
people together, anything is possible.

IT'S JUST ONE MORE ADVENTURE. JAMES

ENG#2 One Roanoke community wants

police to take action after another
house shooting Friday night.

Police say the incident occurred
around 11:00 in the 1900 block of
Hanover Avenue.

Nobody was hurt.

Neighbors tell us they heard
about 10 to 15 guns shots...then the
criminals sped away.

A similar shooting took place at
the house next door in December.

Police are continuing their
investigation.
