this scene could have been much worse.

GRAPHIC=FATAL ACCIDENT In Bedford County, a car ran down an

embankment killing two people.

It happened this afternoon along
Route 24 in the Stewartsville
area.....Police believe the driver ran
off the side of the road, overcorrected
and ran down the embankment. Both
people in the car were killed. No
other cars or people were involved in
the accident. Their names have not
been released.

Both lanes of Virginia 24 were
blocked for a few hours in the accident
area but have since been reopened.

GRAPHIC=CRIME A Lynchburg grand jury will hear

charges against a man accused of
receiving money for procuring
prostitution.

Brian Eugene Schmitz was arrested
in February after a sting at his home
on Pawtucket Drive.

Police say Schmitz advertised on
the Internet site Craigslist for sexual
partners for a woman he described as
his wife.

A Roanoke man allegedly paid

Schmitz 150 dollars on two occasions,
then contacted police.

An undercover officer says he went
to Schmitz's home February 10th and
made the same deal.

A judge today certified two felony
charges to the April grand jury.

teacher is behind bars tonight after a
weekend incident involving gunfire.

looked like a domestic situation, but
today the teacher was charged with two
misdemeanors and felony.

A woman reported Lemon was
sitting in front of her home
threatening to shoot himself.

No one was injured, but a shot
was fired.

Investigators say Lemon
eventually barricaded himself in the
woman's home and officers were forced
to act.

County public corruption case have
admitted their roles in the scandal.

A 42-year old state probation
officer from Fieldale pled guilty this
afternoon.

Carlton Riley admitted he tried
to buy more than two pounds of cocaine.

He paid an informant for a kilo
of fake coke, led police on a
high-speed chase and threw the stuff
out the window.

Riley faces a minimum five year
sentence, possible 40 years.

Former Sheriff's Deputy Steven
Preston also pled guilty today as part
of the racketeering conspiracy.

The 37-year old Bassett resident
tipped off fellow deputies and drug
dealers about a controlled delivery of
the drug Ketamine in late 2003.

Preston faces up to 20-years in
prison.

and charged with stealing thousands of
dollars of athletic equipment from
Jefferson Forest High School over the
weekend.

The teens reportedly broke into a
fieldhouse and stole bats, gloves,
uniforms and personal items from the
J-F junior varsity baseball team.

Authorities say they then tried to
sell some of the items at a used

criminal charges for a Troutville teen.

McMaster has been charged with
malicious wounding.

Lord Botetourt High School.

According to reports, McMaster
came up to another student in the
cafeteria during lunch and punched him
one time.

The fight resulted in serious
injury to the victim.

McMaster turned himself into
authorities the next day.

He's due in court May 7th.

Mark Sisson to the job in a closed

session last night.

At age 34, Sisson is one of the
youngest people ever to hold the title
of police chief in the town.

Sisson has been with the
department for 13 years, most recently
supervising investigations.

He says being chief has always
been a goal.

to the Houston Texans. Atlanta will
swap first round picks with Houston

compete with Houston's starter the past
couple of seasons David Carr who was

Seniors off a team that tied for first
in the A-C-C's Regular Season. One of
those Seniors is Roanoke product J.R.
