GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident All lanes of traffic on Route 220

in Botetourt County are blocked this
morning after a fatal accident.

This Morning A tanker truck carrying diesel
fuel crashed before 2:30 this morning
on Route 220 near downtown Fincastle.

The driver was killed.

The truck went into a ditch and
flipped over.

The contents of the tanker
were spilled all over the roadway. No
other vehicles were involved.

It is expected to take several
hours to clear off the roadway.

Travellers who normally take 220
North are asked to use 81-North to 64.

Southbound, use 64-to-81.

It is unclear exactly how long
both lanes will be closed on 220.


The accident is still under
investigation.

GRAPHIC=Fire Authorities believe they now

know what caused a blaze that left
dozens of dogs dead in Bland County

The fire chief says it was an
accident and does not suspect any foul
play.

He believes it started from a
kerosene heater left inside the kennel
used to keep the animals warm.

The fire broke out early
Wednesday morning around 4:30.

The family owned a breeding farm
and there were 15 different kinds of
dogs killed.

Bland County doesn't limit the
number of dogs you can own.

And animal control says the
family was in compliance with its

regulations.

Forge teen accused of raping and
kidnapping a woman.

DNA evidence was entered last
month in the case against 18-year-old
Andrew Washburn - now forensic evidence
involving boot impressions have been
submitted.

According to documentation
submitted in district court, a boot
print found at the rape scene shows
the same size, design and sole
characteristics- as a pair taken from
Washburn and submitted to the lab for
examination.

But the same report says a
definite conclusion cannot be drawn.

Washburn is accused of taking a
woman from Clifton Forge and raping her

in Botetourt County in January.

Yesterday 20-year-old Lauren Nelson was
sworn in yesterday during ceremonies at
the Bedford County courthouse.

Nelson has made Internet safety for
children one of her top issues during
her year-long reign.

So she's agreed to be a
spokesperson for Bedford's Safe Surfin'
Foundation and the Internet Crimes
Against Children task force.

She spent several hours Thursday
with an investigator who was chatting
on-line with potential sexual
predators.

Nelson says she herself was
approached on-line when she was 13
years old.

restaurant atop of Mill Mountain made
their case yesterday to the Mill
Mountain Advisory Committee.

VO-NAT One by one, opponents got up to

speak against any development on Mill
Mountain.

They're specifically against Valley
Forward's plans to build the Rockledge
Inn between the lower observation deck
and the zoo.

Some are concerned the project would
create traffic and parking issues as
well as ruin the scenic views.

The committee was not scheduled to
vote but a member made a motion asking
city council to vote against the
project. The motion passed.

drivers to get an oil change every
75-hundred miles.

They're making the change because
of better oil standards and new engine
models.

Mechanics at Crescent Heights
Tire and Grocery aren't sold on the
idea.

They say if you don't change
your oil on a regular basis, you could
end up with engine problems.


They also recommend you stick
with the same brand of oil each time
you change it.
