GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident One man is dead after an accident
yesterday afternoon in Grayson County.
It happened at around four thirty
at the intersection of Route 58 and
Route 797 near the Mount Rogers area.
Officials say 43-year-old Leslie
Bruce Blevins of Chilhowie was coming
around a curve when he hit a guardrail
and was thrown off of his motorcycle.
He was taken to the hospital
where he later died.
No other vehicles were involved.

killed while riding a motorcycle in
Patrick County.
The accident happened last night
on Route 8 just north of Route 605.
Samuel Flucher (Full-cher) Junior
was taken to a hospital in
Winston-Salem...where he later died.

obstruction of justice and violating a
protective order escaped from State
Police custody in Roanoke last night.
Twenty-eight-year-old Wayne R.
Mack was last seen near the
intersection of 10th and Hanover
Streets.
He's a black male who weighs
about 180 pounds and is about 5 feet 11
inches tall.
Authorities say he has cornrows
and two tattoos, one on his right arm,
the other on his neck.
He was last seen wearing a black
tank top, blue jeans and handcuffs.
If you have any information about
his whereabouts, please call the State
Police or Roanoke City Police.

being honored.

Yesterday morning, the Virginia
Tech Corps of Cadets laid a wreath at
the national D-Day Memorial in Bedford.
They took a walking tour of the
memorial and listened to first hand
accounts from a veteran who fought on
the front lines.
Organizers say this experience
was a way to show those students who
are about to enter the Navy what to
expect.
It also helped drive home the
reality of war.

gap" that has been around for a while.

with a new construction project.
The Clements Mill Bridge on Route
6-87 has been closed for some time due
to maintenance concerns.
VDOT is finally giving the county
permission to build a new single-lane
bridge.
The old bridge used to connect
the Red Valley area to the Wirtz and
Burnt Chimney communities.
The hope is, that the new
thoroughfare will enhance travel.

Annual Home Show this weekend.
The event draws huge crowds each
year and this year was no different.
More than 200 vendors were on
hand to show off the latest trends as
well as the classics.
Along with the booths, the expo
also offered three days of "how-to"
clinics on how to tackle tough projects
like kitchen renovations and tile
installation.

national petition to slow trucks down
on the highway.
In 2002, Steve Owings said
good-bye to his two sons Thanksgiving
weekend as they returned to Washington
and Lee University after their holiday
break.

Within miles of safely making it
back to school, a semi-truck plowed
into the back of their car, killing
22-year-old Cullum Owings instantly.
His brother, Pierce, survived the
crash unharmed.
In the wake of his son's death,
Steve Owings has co-founded a
non-profit organization called Road
Safe America.
The group's mission is to
petition the Department of
Transportation to restrict the maximum
speed of semi-trucks to 68 miles per
hour.

community found out what it was like to
live without water following not one,
but two water main breaks.

The problems started Saturday
night.
That's when the main broke in the
28-hundred block of Garden City
Boulevard around 8:00 P-M.
That problem was fixed early
Sunday morning, but a couple of hours
later, another water break happened in
the same block.
The water authority says it is
not common to have two water main
breaks, both within hours of each other
and within the same block-- leaving the
same community without service.
The company received calls from
many residents in the area, and says it
worked as quickly as possible to fix
the problem.
