jumping from a burning, 20- story
building in Long Beach.

tagged along with an ambulance crew
from Carilion.

"200 WE'LL BE IN ROUTE TO NEW RIVER
VALLEY"))

Our mission is to transfer a sick
patient from Radford to Roanoke
Memorial.

We're about a mile down the road when
we encouter our first problem. When

this driver finally pulls over, he
barely gives us enough room to get by.

Once we get on 581 we find several
drivers who take their sweet time
getting out of the way. (car at 49:54))

THEY GET TO GO IN.

OQ=get to go in You then have situations like this

one. As we merge from 581 to 81, one
driver pulls over to the left, the
other to the right.

Once we squeeze by and get on 81, we
find plenty of vehicles who do get out
of our way. (shots from the side)

But take a look at this driver in
Salem. (shot at 54:22 to 54:30) He's
too busy talking on his cell phone to
pull over.

We then find this driver in
Montgomery County who cuts us off and
(1:00:30) then seems to slow down. As
you might imagine, this angers

emergency personnel.

least three vehicles refuse to allow us
to proceed through the intersection.

At the hospital, EMT's tell us our
ride was pretty typical, some drivers
are too distracted, others just don't
care.

But owner Victoria Longley says a
recent ruling by the Roanoke Fire

month, the Fire Marshal limited

occupancy to just 49 people.

Fire officials were not available
for comment, but Longley and her
attorney say nothing has changed since
the building passed its last fire
inspection in 2004.

Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing
Authority is leaving the agency.

Henry called in federal officials

discharged untreated waste water into
the Roanoke River "...could hardly have
been more compelling."

That's the conclusion yesterday of the
federal appeals court in Richmond.

ago of violating the Clean Water Act.

In upholding the conviction, the
Appeals Court found Cooper "knew he was
discharging human sewage and knew his

27-month sentence in federal prison.
He was also fined 270-thousand dollars.
