hearing examiner is recommending a 3.9
percent increase in operating revenue
for Appalachian Power Company, rather
than the 25.4 percent now in effect.
APCo filed a 198.5 million-
dollar rate request last May.
The company has been operating
the 25.4 percent increase on an interim
basis since October, while the SCC
reviewed the application.
The Commission is now
recommending that APCo be allowed an
overall net increase of about 30.6
million dollars.

August Morva is the Blacksburg man
accused of escaping police custody last
summer, and gunning down a hospital
security guard and a Montgomery County
sheriff's deputy.
Morva was in jail on attempted
robbery charges at the time of the
alleged escape.
He pleaded not guilty this
morning to various robbery and larceny
charges.
Attorneys are questioning 54
potential jurors.
So far, every potential juror but
one has admitted to hearing about Morva
and the events of last summer.
The trial is scheduled to last
for two days, because it's expected to
take a while to seat a jury.

From Nebraska to Texas...a strip of the
nation's mid-section saw more
than 60 tornados touch down Wednesday.
Dozens of people have been
treated for injuries and several have
lost their lives. The worst
damage was in eastern Colorado where
the town of Holly took a direct
hit.

"We could hear the windows upstairs
breaking and lumber popping and just
a lot of loud noise."
Russell Grogran's house was practically
destroyed but outside there was
something more horrific.

"I heard somebody hollering in the back
and I looked over in the back
and there was a little girl and her
mother up in a tree."
Lauri Martin On-Camera Bridge: That
woman later perished but the child
survived. That twister was said to be
more than 600 feet across and left
a trail of destruction over a mile
long.
Electricity and natural gas has been
shut off to prevent fires. Rescue
teams are going door to door in search
of people who may have been
killed or badly injured. The Red Cross
is also on scene, helping people
rebound from their losses.

About 400 miles South in the Texas
panhandle...more fierce weather
spawned funnel clouds that cut across
mostly rural areas. The storms
also brought 70 mph wind gusts along
with heavy rain and hail in
several Texas counties.
Authorities say one reason for the
minimal loss of life is that
residents are taking storm warnings
more seriously. Now that the danger
has passed, there is much work to be
done as the rebuilding will start

A set of 15 commemorative stamps
were unveiled yesterday at Grauman's
Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, where

The stamps will be sold as a set.
But fan votes will determine which

and already they have suffered a major
setback.

2006 Season Kevin Ogletree injured his knee
in Practice this past Friday, and today
Head Coach Al Groh announced during his
teleconference that the results of the
MRI exam indicate that Ogletree has a
torn ACL and is likely out for the
entire upcoming season.
Surgery has not been scheduled as
of yet.
Ogletree had 52 receptions for
5-hundred and 82 yards and 4 Touchdowns
last season.
His loss means the Cavaliers have
only 2 other Wide Outs that actually
have a reception in a game currently on
their Spring Roster.

opened a new gorilla facility at the
London Zoo.
Zookeepers hope the revamped
habitat, nicknamed "Love Island" will
encourage romance among the gorillas,
and boost the zoo's captive breeding

the 10- million- dollar facility as the
gorillas settled in.
