Office is searching for a man who may
have drowned.

The search is currently underway
on Riverland Road in the Sharon section
of the county.
That's about six miles east of
Clifton Forge.
The Sheriff says just before
eight o'clock last night, two boys were
riding their bikes along the Cowpasture
River when they SAY they saw a man in
the water.

time later but so far the search has
turned up nothing.

And it's not always easy to pull
over. Take this recent emergency on
Route 220 near Buck Mountain Road.
Firefighters were responding to a
brush fire but as you can see traffic
was completely jammed, making it
difficult for firetrucks to get
through.
That prompted us to ask, what
should drivers have done in this
situation?

GRAPHIC=MORVA, WILLIAM CHARLES William Morva finally has a jury
to hear his robbery case.

Morva's the Blacksburg man
accused of escaping from custody last
August and killing a security officer
and a Montgomery County sheriff's
deputy.
Morva was in jail on robbery
charges at the time of the alleged
escape.
He pleaded NOT guilty yesterday
morning to eight charges.
Police say in 2005 he tried to
rob 2 convenience stores, a Burger King
and a Credit Union.
The judge brought in 54 potential
jurors, but after questioning 32 of
them seated a jury of 4 women and 8
men.

Randolph- Macon Woman's College is
apparently more popular with
prospective freshmen than ever before.

school students have applied by mail or
on-line to be a part of that first
co-ed class ... that's a 110 percent
increase over last year's applications.
With the deadline still more than a
month away, school officials say

boast about.
We're nearing the completion of
the biggest events facility in
Southwest Virginia.

Workers are putting the finishing
touches on the special events center.
The building will have its grand
opening this weekend, but today we got
a sneak peak.
It has been two years and 12
million dollars in the making.
The building is 46 thousand
square feet and will be able to host
conventions, trade shows, and athletic
events.
The city hopes to generatate
about a quarter million dollars a year.
There is one growing pain.
The site is losing about 200
parking spots.

The Southwest Virginia Ballet is
presenting a spring performance of

"Coppelia" is a doll who catches the
heart of a man that's already engaged.
And one of the main characters, the
doll's creator, is played by the
Company's new artistic director.
So far, from what he's seen, he

GRAPHIC=APPALACHIAN POWER Appalachian Power customers in
southwest Virginia may be getting a
refund this summer.

File Tape The company has a request to
increase rates by more than 25- percent
before the State Corporation
Commission.
Yesterday the hearing examiner
recommended the commission only allow
APCO to raise rates by three- point-
nine percent.
For a customer using one-
thousand kilowatt hours- that's a
difference of more than 11- dollars
every month.
The company is spending more than
one- billion dollars to clean up
emissions and comply with environmental
regulations.
Since the interim rate increase
went into effect in October, the S-C-C
has received 40- thousand complaints
from customers.
If the commission approves the
lower rate increase, customers will
receive credits on their bills- with
interest.
There is no deadline for the
commission to make a final decision,
but officials predict it could come by
early summer.

local APCO customers.

John Cowher cow-her is a Roanoke
County husband and father of three.
He admits his family uses a lot
of electricity - anywhere from four to
five-thousand kilowatts a month.
Since the increase, his bill is
MORE than a hundred-dollars than it
used to be.
Cowher says - the family is more
conscious of the heating settings,
light being left on, and this summer he
plans on reinsulating the attic.
