after a high speed chase through two
counties early this morning.

24-year-old Jason Lee Saunders died
when his patrol car ran off the road
and hit several trees near Huddleston.

deputies spotted a suspicious car in a
restaurant parking lot near Yellow
Branch on Route 29 and the driver took
off.

The pursuit moved into Bedford
County and Deputy Saunders was on his
way to join the chase

This Morning when his patrol car ran off Johnson
Mountain Road near the Mount Plain
Baptist Church around 2:20 a.m.

Saunders's car hit several trees
and flipped over ... he was later
pronounced dead at Lynchburg General
Hospital.

Saunders had been with the Campbell
County Sheriff's Department for three
years.

The State Police accident
reconstruction team spent several hours
at the scene this morning trying to
piece together exactly how the crash
occurred.

Campbell County sheriff Terry Gaddy
was also on the scene but has not made
any comment about the accident.

multiple- car pileup on Route 460 near
Lynchburg this morning.

the crash happened in the eastbound
lanes near Greenview Drive around 8:30.

At least four cars were involved
... and the Medflight helicopter was
called for one of the injured persons.

Traffic in the area was blocked for
more than an hour, as police worked to
clear the scene.

And getting to work was a
challenge this morning in downtown
Roanoke.

A car crashed on Interstate

581 northbound near the Orange Avenue
Exit.

The wreck closed two of the
three lanes, and caused a big backup.

One person was taken from the
scene by ambulance.

There's no word from State Police on
that person's injuries, or what caused
the accident.

Keydets went 4 and 1 including sweeping
a weekend series at home.

close to home by coaching in Lexington.

recruited to William & Mary by

traveling more than 350 miles- per-
hour.

The train with three double -decker
cars named the V- 150, smashed the
previous record of just over 320
miles-per-hour.

record set by a Japanese magnetic
levitation train-- which soared to 361
miles- per- hour.
