one person who died in a boating
accident yesterday on Smith Mountain
Lake.
Tharp Funeral Home tells us
Richard Smith of Moneta was brought in
last night after the boat he was riding
in flipped over yesterday afternoon.
Meanwhile, authorities are still
looking for another person who
disappeared after the boat capsized.

Divers were called out around
four o'clock to the Bedford County side
of the lake.
Authorities believe four people
were on board at the time.
They're not sure how the boat
flipped.

trying to make sure he gets a fair
trial this fall.

The 25 year old Blacksburg man is
charged with capital murder in the
deaths of a Montgomery County Sheriff's
deputy and a hospital security officer.
Morva was in court yesterday
afternoon, as his attorneys argued 13
pre-trial motions.
The majority of the motions dealt
with jury selection and the
Constitutionality of the death penalty.
Morva's defense will ask the
court to move the trial out of
Montgomery County.

yesterday on Interstate 81 ...
And it all ended with an accident
and a marijuana bust.

State Police say they pulled over
31 year old Alejandro Juan Oceguera Oh-
suh- geh -ra in Pulaski County for an
improper lane change.
Troopers say Oceguera drove off
as they were writing a ticket.

The chase ended in Montgomery
County just North of Radford when the
suspect allegedly swerved to hit an
officer.
He then crossed the median and
tried to head the wrong way on
Interstate 81 when he crashed his Saab
into an unmarked cruiser.
Two police cruisers were damaged.
Police also say they found five
pounds of marijuana in the Saab.

employment database created last
spring.
The database was designed to help
young professionals who want to stay in
western Virginia.

has officially started...and that means
some new changes are on the way.

days a week - Wednesday through Sunday-
instead of just weekends only.
The season will also extend

Campbell County deputy are coming to
terms with his death, which happened in
the line of duty.

Tuesday 24-year-old Jason Lee Saunders died
when his patrol car crashed on Johnson
Mountain Road near Huddleston.
Saunders was on his way to help
other deputies involved in a high-speed
pursuit.
Support has been pouring into the
Altavista home of his parents, Peggy
and Dale Saunders.

2007 is now over.

Lawmakers returned to Richmond
yesterday to consider Governor Kaine's
vetoes and amendments.
Delegates and Senators
overwhelmingly approved the governor's
changes to the transportation bill.
That after Kaine worked with
Republican leaders to craft a
compromise.
The bill includes three- billion
dollars in bonds- to be paid back with
existing taxes.
Bad drivers will pay higher fees,
vehicle registration fees will increase
ten dollars. while the tax on diesel
will be increased to match that on
gasoline.
Lawmakers also voted to override
two of Kaine's vetoes.
Murder of a witness in a criminal
case and murder of a judge are now
punishable by death.
