witness alerted the staff of the
patient-stay nursing home that flames
were shooting out the top of the
building.

Employees went to the top floor
of the East Section with a fire
extinguisher, but the smoke and flames
were too heavy to control.
Within moments, fire crews
reported to the scene.
Officials had to round up
wheelchairs to help move 35 to 40
patients from the fourth floor to the
westside of the building.
They are safe.
According to an employee,
patients on the second and third floors
were not moved.

mystery surrounding the death of a
Franklin County minister found dead in
her home.

VO-NAT The victim is 60 year old Nancy Copin
(Cope-in) who was the minister of Snow
Creek Christian Church.

Yesterday, several members from the
church went to her home on Snow Creek
Road after she failed to show up at a
church event Wednesday night.
When they opened a back door they saw
blood and called 9-1-1.
Investigators don't believe this was
a suicide, therefore they are treating
the death as suspicious.

He is currently the principal of
William Byrd Middle School in Vinton,
and was Tiki and Ronde Barber's head
football coach while the brothers were
at Cave Spring.
Spangler will replace Martha
Cobble who plans to retire after being
principal for nearly fifteen years.

Sudan this week, surveying one of the
world's biggest trouble spots.

been killed and 2-million have been
displaced by a civil war.
The United States provides two
thirds of the funding for food and
medical care, but Goodlatte says there
aren't enough troops to patrol the
area.

Work got underway on the War
Memorial in November.
Inside, crews are dropping the
ceiling and have taken out an entire
wall to more than double the size of
the large ballroom -When it's all said
and done the facility will be able to
hold 350-people.
Outside, more parking,
landscaping and even a monument to
Roanoke County and Vinton veterans will
be featured.
Construction is expected to be
completed by early October.

GRAPHIC=none Searchers in Bedford County have
recovered the boat that was involved in
Wednesday's deadly accident on Smith
Mountain Lake.
But they have not found 44- year-
old David Reynolds who disappeared when
the boat went down.

Twelve hours after search teams
launched their boats, they returned to
the ramp yesterday evening.
They were towing the 33-foot
Emerald Isle III, a 2007 replica of an
antique ski boat.
Divers located the craft earlier
in the day, and used lift bags and
tanks of compressed air to raise it to
the surface.
Despite an extensive day-long
search using a state police helicopter,
boats and dive teams, authorities were
unable to locate Reynolds.
The boats will be back on the
water today using side scan sonar to
check out shallower areas near the
shore.
But authorities say the area
where the boat went down is very deep
and conditions very dangerous, so they
do not expect divers to return to the
water today.
