They held a news conference yesterday
to question why council won't appoint
Sherman Lea Junior, an African
American, to the school board.

City leaders say the reason is
simple, his father is on city council
and that would be a conflict of
interest.

But black leaders call it a
double standard pointing out Bev
Fitzpatrick is a council member who's
son works for the city as a planner.

VO-NAT Yesterday, V-DOT released its

final blueprint for I-81 improvements.

The Final Environmental
Impact Statement comes to the basic
conclusion that 81's problems need
different fixes in different places.

That means more lanes in some
spots, no changes in others.

One fix that has been ruled
out-- separate lanes for cars and
trucks along the entire highway.

V-DOT says that provides more
than is needed.

It's now up to the Federal
Highway Administration to sign off on
the statement.
