Lynchburg real estate values have
gone up significantly ... enough so the
city would have to cut its tax rate
from a dollar-eleven per one hundred
dollars of assessed value to 94 cents

to bring in the same amount of tax
revenue as last year.

a rifle into a high school window,
injuring 10 students.

at Springwater Trail High School-- just
outside of Portland.

The shooter's parents called police--
saying their son admitted he fired the

pounds of donated deer meat since 1991.


That translates into over
12-million servings.

350-thousand pounds of venison came in.

With the blessing of all the
donated meat, comes the expense of
having it processed for distribution to
statewide foodbanks.

Hunters for the Hungry still has
a need to process the deer that came in
at the end of the urban archery
season... that's 60-thousand pounds
worth.

The program is called Virginia
Hunters Who Care...The hunters have
done their part by providing the
venison, now financial support is
needed to turn the meat into meals.

65 year old Jonathan Utin was
indicted by a Montgomery County grand

jury on 10 counts of statutory rape of
a 12 year old girl.

Utin taught math and science for
35 years at Blacksburg Middle School
before retiring.

The indictment alleges that the
abuse happened between June 1st 1970
and March 31st 1971.

The victim would now be 48 years
old.

Utin pleaded guilty last month in
Ohio to raping another 12 year old
girl.

He will be sentenced next week.

Commonwealth's Attorney Brad
Finch says he will bring Utin back to
Virginia as soon as possible.

handcuffs at the Franklin County jail
from Ohio yesterday afternoon.

Later a judge charged him with
murder, however the suspect was
extradited back to the county on less

serious charges.

One of those charges included
felony theft for failing to pay for
fuel in Henry County when he was
gassing up his car.

Investigators say the gas station
was most likely Cobler's last stop
before fleeing to Ohio.

dead.

Yesterday, Governor Tim Kaine
vetoed a bill he'd already tried to
amend.

The General Assembly last
week rejected Kaine's amendment that
would have banned smoking outright.

of bad luck lately, thanks to North
Carolina's year old lottery.

are down nearly five percent, that
equates to about a little over 68
million dollars.

The state says that's not exactly
that bad when you consider the lottery
took in more than a billion dollars
last year.

However, stores along the border have
