GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident A man was killed in a motorcycle
accident in Lynchburg last night.
It happened at around eleven
o'clock on route 501 northbound near
Graves Mill Road.
The man died at the scene.
There is no word on the cause of
the accident- but police say no other
vehicles were involved.

surrounding two shopping centers
planned for our area.

The first is the Keagy Village
Project in Roanoke County, to be built
at the corner of Route 419 and Keagy
Road next to Allstate Insurance.
A while back, neighbors bitterly
fought this project, arguing a retail
shopping center is inappropiate for a
residential neighborhood.
But three years later the complex is
still not open.

needs a building permit but more
importantly, an anchor store is needed.

Crews have been busy the last few
months clearing the land for what's
being described as a highscale shopping
center.
Kahn Development says it will
consist of speciality shops and an
office complex.
So far, Starbucks and a
restaurant called Bone Fish Grille have
agreed to locate to Keagy Village.
However, the developer still
hasn't found a small higher end grocery
store.
Kahn Development partly blames
the addition of Fresh Market and
Ukrop's to the area for the holdup.
Even so, the project is still a
go and the developer hopes to have some
of the retail shops open by the end of
the year.

Blacksburg is over a big box store,
possibly a Walmart, and the fight is
already getting nasty.

latest plan for South Main Street in
Blacksburg.

retail center called First and Main on
these 40 acres.
It's the site of the old Lake
Terrace Hotel.
Company leaders announced
yesterday that an unspecified big box
retailer WILL anchor the site.
About 50 people gathered outside
the Inn at Virginia Tech yesterday
morning to protest a big box store.
The protesters were outside,
while town leaders were inside having
lunch.
The group is specifically against
Walmart.

is rolling out the welcome mat for the
Museum of the Confederacy.

Several communities in and out of
state are trying to lure the museum to
their area...including Lexington.
Community and business leaders
want the museum to relocate to the
historic courthouse in the downtown
area.
That property will be available
once the new courthouse is built at
Randolph and Nelson Streets in about
two years.
Those in favor of the move say
more tourists would visit the area and
bring in nearly a million dollars in
tax revenue.
But opponents worry the move
could be offensive and to some.

Jefferson.

can buy it, too.
Every year, travelers from around
the world visit the destination.
The sale should not affect normal
operations.

apparent drive-by shooting in Danville
last night.
It happened at around ten
o'clock.
Authorities say a man was
standing on the corner of North Main
and Bradley when someone shot at him
from a moving car.
The man was wounded in the knee
and taken to the hospital.

Danville went down in North Carolina
-killing the one-person on board.

According to a flight plan, the
plane left from Carolina Beach
Wednesday and was supposed to arrive at
the Danville Airport that afternoon at
4:30.

When it didn't - Caswell County
authorities were alerted and several
teams searched until bad weather forced
them to stop.
They resumed the search yesterday
morning and at about 10:30- crews found
the wreckage about 12 miles south of
Danville in a wooded area near Farmer
Lake.

News, 50-year-old Danny Alvis was
piloting his experimental aircraft when
it crashed.
Alvis is a financial guru who
hosts a weekly syndicated radio show.
His radio station manager says
Alvis was heading to Danville to pick
up a guest for his show.
The F-A-A is still investigating
the incident.
