high winds- the Northeast is battening
down the hatches for what one
forecaster calls the "biggest mid-April
storm in 25-years."

continues to widen as the project keeps
inching forward.

90-years later it was destroyed by
fire.

A local group wants to rekindle
the business and so far they've won the
support of the Mill Mountains Advisory
Committee.

They''ve even managed to get the
attention of city leaders.

John Lugar is one step closer to
seeing a vision of a new Rockledge Inn
become a reality.

His group Valley Forward proposed
a plan to the Roanoke City Council to
turn the this land on Mill Mountain

into an upscale lodge which includes
45-60 rooms, a destination restuarant
and jazz club.

and is now requesting proposals from
contractors to develop a hotel and or
restaurant complex.

Lugar sees this as an optimistic
sign for this area.

However, he points out that this
is just the beginning.

Steger st-Eager addressed the faculty
senate last week saying tuition
increases and greater reliance on
private gifts are in the school's
future.

Steger says Virginia's
universities "dodged a bullet" when
legislators settled on taking
69-million dollars out of the general
fund to use for transportation *rather*
than the 250 million dollars originally
discussed.

At Tech- there will be more
construction and higher operating
costs.

And with increasing enrollment,
Tech's president says tuition will
likely be about 50-percent higher than
it is today.

heavy rains and strong winds.

high winds- the Northeast is preparing
for a storm that brought tornado
conditions, baseball sized hail and a
massive snow storm to the mid-west last
week.

Yesterday, crooner Don Ho died of
heart failure.

The singer was the undisputed
king of Hawaiian entertainers.

Born in 1930, Ho began his career
performing at a Waikiki nightclub where
he caught the attention of music
executives.

He made recordings and performed
in Las Vegas and made guest appearances
on tv and in a couple of movies.

He briefly had his own tv variety
show, but most people knew him from his
nightclub act.

He opened and closed every show
with his hit song "Tiny Bubbles."

Ho was 76.

went on sale today for the 2008 Beijing
Olympics.

bringing a little piece of history back

to life.

This old cabin in Glade Hill was
built in 1800s and eventually sold to
one of the sharecroppers who worked on
the property.

Sam Holland then passed it on to
his son, Will who's currently restoring
it back to it's orginial condition.

Holland says the job hasn't come
without it's fair share of headaches,
but keeping it intact was his father's
final wish.
