proportions....that's how a massacre on
the campus of Virginia Tech is being
described.
Governor Tim Kaine has declared a
state of emergency after at least 33
people died in what's being called the
deadliest mass shooting in U-S history.

105 Here's a recap of today's events.
Police received the call about
the first shooting at West Ambler
Johnston Hall at about 7:15.
Officials say the second shooting
happened about two hours later at
Norris Hall, an academic building for
engineering classes across the campus.
Virginia Tech officials held a
press conference around noon.
At that time, 22 people were
confirmed killed, including the gunman.
At about 2:00, officials
announced the death toll had risen to
33 people.

Witnesses reported seeing
students jumping out of a classroom

GRAPHIC=Hold One thing we kept hearing from
students on campus, is how it felt like
their Columbine...
And of course Columbine was one
of the deadliest attacks on a school in
US history...
But the shooting today is
now the deadliest school shooting in
this country to date...In fact it's the
dealiest mass shooting.
Now, before this incident, the
deadliest shooting was in Texas in 1966
at the University of Texas at Austin,
where 16 people were killed.....

April 20, 1999 And going back to the Columbine
incident for a moment, 13 people were
killed...24 injured...and it's eerie
that it happened nearly eight years ago
to the date....those shootings were
April 20 of 1999....
Of course the numbers from the
incident today outnumber both of the
past shootings significantly...with 31
confirmed dead and we don't know yet if
that number will continue to
increase....
Now, we used the computer
to research facts...and of course
technology plays a key role when
breaking news happen...when cell phones
won't work, as was the case today, too
many people trying to call
out.....popular websites like Myspace
become a primary way to get information
out there and retrieve it....we checked
out some random pages from Tech
students...you can see concerned
friends were leaving comments on
people's profiles, asking if they were
okay...what was going
on.....tonight...the calm after the
storm.....the messages read more to I'm
glad you're okay....
And of course it was only
a matter of time before video was
posted on youtube......amateur video
taken by students posted to the
website.....

compelled to hold services tonight - if
nothing else, but to pray for the
victims of today's shootings.

At Cave Spring Baptist Church in
Roanoke, this morning's massacre hits
close to home.
There are several young adults
currently going to Tech that are or at
one time were members of this church
including Joe Hedricks' two daughters.
His girls were in close proximity
to today's shootings but they were not
at the scene.

Roanoke was another church that
gathered in rememberance.
They centered their service
around a ceremony called "The Burial of
the Dead".
It's a service that's practiced
on solemn occasions such as this.
