Rustburg last night for the latest
showdown over the use of biosolids on
Campbell County farmland.

Last Night The group Citizens Against Toxic
Sludge has been pressuring the board of
supervisors for months to adopt an
ordinance that would ban the use of
biosolids all together.
They say sludge poses serious
health risks to residents ... and that
citizens deserve more rights than
corporations.
But many area farmers say there's
no solid proof of health risks ... and
banning biosolids will only expose the
county to lawsuits.
The board ended up approving the
least restrictive ordinance that only
allows for testing and monitoring of
sludge on area farmland.
Board members said the more
restrictive ordinance would "not" have
held up in court, but that they'll
continue to work through state
legislators on controlling the use of
biosolids.

news at Virginia Tech that we mentioned
earlier.

8:25 a.m. About a half hour ago, armed police
responded to a call of some suspicious
activity at Burruss Hall.
An armored truck was also parked in
front of the building.
There were also reports of possible
threats to Tech president Charles
Steger.
But officials say the call proved to
be unfounded...
A Tech spokeswoman declined to say
what the suspicious activity was, or if
an evacuation occurred.
Just a few moments ago a state police
spokesperson had this to say from the
Inn at Virginia Tech.

Mrs. Kaine at the memorial set up on
the drill field.
The first-lady placed a group of
Hokie-colored roses at the Virginia
Tech sign and joined the President and
Governor as they took a moment to write
a message of support.

President and Governor signing the
memorial was the standing ovation at
the convocation given to Virgina Tech
president Dr. Charles Steger and the
