GRAPHIC=None Monday's shooting rampage will not

deprive student victims of their
degrees from Virginia Tech.

The remaining students- -whether they
were directly in the line of fire or
not- -will be given broad latitude to
deicde for themselves how they complete
the academic year.

And a review commission is all-but
ready to begin scrutinizing all that
has gone on at Tech this week.

Those are the headlines of late
developments in the aftermath of the
worst school shooting in American
history.

We begin our coverage tonight with
Rachel DePompa in Blacksburg.

signs. He was accused of stalking, he
worried professors and scared
classmates and Tech Police even took
him to a mental health facility. But a

mental health expert from Virginia Tech
said today, there still is not clear
way to predict what someone might do.

non-communicative, in a world by

He came on Tech Police's radar in the
Fall of 2005 when two female students
accused him of stalking behaviors. Then
a friend said Cho was suicidal. Police
got a temporary detention order and Cho

was admitted to St. Albans for
treatment. The University says they
followed procedure.

leaves a psychiatric facility needs
extended care and follow up. Who gets
notified, under a court order is
determined by HIPPA regulations and not
be the university. :04

Cho lived in Harper Hall this year with
five other roommates. A University
officials say that may be one of the
most telling facts of all.

expressed any concern to us of any
violence, danger, whatever. I think
that gives you a view of the entire

GRAPHIC=Plane Crash A small plane crashed in

Danville this morning.

Police say there were
multiple fatalities. A News-7 crew saw
what appeared to be two bodies being
loaded into ambulances.

The plane was trying to make
an emergency landing around 9:20 when
it crashed at the end of Lexington
Avenue.

The names of the victims have

not been released by authorities.

The Federal Aviation
Administration will take over the
investigation.

killed an armed man while responding to
a call.

The incident happened Wednesday
on Old Spanish Trail.

Police arrived after being
alerted of a man attempting suicide.

Police say 43 year-old John
Harvey Bridges of Roanoke came toward
them and refused to put down a sword.

Officer A. S. Puckett shot him
once and the man later died at the
hospital.

Officer Puckett has been with the
agency 3 years.

Officer K. L. Simcox was also on

the call has served 2 years.

Both are on administrative leave
while an investigation is being
conducted.

Seung-Hui said he has always been
troubled.

Associated Press that she had little
contact with Cho since he and his

parents left South Korea for the U-S.

Cho's grandfather told her about
what happened.

According to her, Cho was always
a quiet boy and his parents were told
he was autistic.

Cho was very cold, and she said
he would not speak to her or his
mother.

She said Cho's mother had told
her she was afraid of dying with him
during phone calls from the states.

after detonating a homemade explosive
device in an Oregon high school
hallway.

in Eugene. Police say the 15 year old
suspect detonated the device in a trash
can, during a break between classes. No
one was injured and no damage was done
to the building. The high school was on
lockdown immediately following the
explosion. The teen faces numerous
charges including manufacturing a
destructive device and disorderly
conduct in the second degree.

forget one student...all because of
this exam the student turned in. It was

a multiple choice test, but the
students had written all over it.

We showed the exam to psychiatrist
Doctor Conrad Daum to get a
professional opinion.

He believes this was someone who
definitely needed a psychiatric
evaluation.

PSYCHOTIC, DOES THIS PERSON HAVE A
BREAK WITH REALITY AND AS SUCH THEY
BECOME DANGEROUS OR POTENTIALLY

On the exam the student wrote they
were going through a stressful
situation... and referred to some of
their classmates as those people.
Redican did contact the counseling

service on campus, and even tried
numerous times to contact the student.
But the student never returned to class
and Redican never heard about the
student again. He says once there in
the system it's very difficult to get
information, because of privacy issues.

THINGS GET SO RESTRICTIVE IN TERMS OF
COMMUNICATION THAT OFTEN TIMES I THINK
THE COMMUNICATION BREAKS DOWN, HELPING
PEOPLE BREAKS DOWN, AND IT ERODES THAT

What broke-down in the case of Cho
Seung Hui (joh sung wee) is still under
investigation. Although we know at one
point he was taken to a mental health
facility. Doctor Daum says it's a
difficult process to keep someone
hospitalized against there will.

marginal investigative value.

The manifesto that was mailed to NBC
News did explain one mysteryrevealing
that Joh went to the Blacksburg post
office during the 2 hour gap between
shootings on Monday. It also confirms
that 23-year-old gunman was filled with
pent up hate and anger.

sparked a debate here on Virginia Tech
s Campus whether the materials should

While classes are set to resume here
next week, officials are anticipating

few classrooms and people had no idea
what was about to happen.

BUILDINGS. INSIDE ON THE SECOND FLOOR,
BASIC CLASSROOMS ARE FITTED WITH
CHALKBOARDS AND SIMPLE NO-FRILLS DESKS.
AND TO A GUNMAN INTENT ON KILLINGTHERE
IS A CLEAR ADVANTAGE. He just stepped
within five feet of the door and just
started firing. WHEN CHO SUNG WHEE
(PHONETIC SPELL), SEEN HERE IN PHOTOS
HE SENT TO NBC, STEPPED INSIDE A GERMAN
CLASS AND OPENED FIRE HE BLOCKED THE
ONLY ENTRANCE TO THE ROOM. STUDENTS HAD
NO TIME TO REACT NO WHERE TO HIDE. He
came into our classroom and shot

someone almost instantly. At that point
he shot multiple people a lot in the
front row and lots of us panicked and
went under our desks and tried to take
cover. WHEN HE STEPPED OUT OF THE FIRST
CLASSROOM CHO WAS ONLY ABOUT TEN STEPS
AWAY FROM ANY OF FIVE OTHER DOORS. HE
MOVED FREELY IN THE HALLWAY WITH A
CLEAR SHOT AT ANYONE WHO COULD HAVE
TRIED TO ESCAPE. CARRYING THE TWO
PISTOLS HE POSED WITH IN THIS PHOTO..IF
CHO WAS LOOKING FOR A PLACE ON CAMPUS
WHERE HE COULD TRAP ENTIRE ROOMS OF
POTENTIAL VICTIMSHE FOUND IT. The
killer could pick any classroom HE
wantedpeople familiar with that hallway
tell us the doors are solid wood.so the
students couldn't look outside to see
what was going on or see where Cho was
going next. To make the situation even
worsethe doors had no locks. THAT LEFT
ONLY TWO OPTIONS FOR SURVIVAL: ZACK
PETKEWICZ AND A CLASSMATE GRABBED A
TABLE AND BLOCKED THE DOOR TO THEIR
CLASSROOM. CHO COULDN'T GET IN EVEN
WHEN HE FIRED ROUNDS THROUGH THE DOORS.
You know, we were just trying to hold
that table against that door. And
thankfully we weren't in front of it

when he did shoot through it. THE LAST
HOPE FOR SOME WAS TO JUMP THROUGH THE
BUILDING'S SMALL WINDOWS NOT BUILT TO
ACCOMMODATE A MASS ESCAPE..AND NO EASY
FEAT TO SQUEEZE THROUGH. NOT TO MENTION
THE SHEER DROP FROM THE SECOND FLOORAN
EASY CHOICE FOR SOME WHEN IT SEEMED
LIKE THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE WAS DEATH.

you. And she stayed up until 5 or 6 in
the morning when she had an 8 o'clock
class to help you no matter what.

11:10:40 Kelsey - They didn't wake up
the other morning thinking they were
going to get shot. I mean I saw Kaitlin
that morning, she was in the shower
while I was getting ready to go to my
first class. It was just devastating
knowing she was never coming back.
