(END SOT) Standing silently in grief and

prayermembers of the Virginia Tech
community paid tribute to the 32

victims killed Monday.

(pause for silence)

And while a moment of silence was
observed in Blacksburgchurch bells rang
out across the nation.

(natz bells)

Virginia s governor has declared this a
state-wide day of mourning and many are
doing so wearing the Hokie school
colors.

Sot: Ron Webb/Virginia Tech Graduate
(09:59:06)

I just wanted to stop by and pay my
respects.

Many feel the same way, including the
parent of a student killed at Columbine
High School eight years ago today.

Sot: Michael Shoels/Son killed at
Columbine (10:01:56)

I could be in Colorado burning candles
with them, but I feel I m most needed
here.

(Susan Roberts Bridge)

And while the mourning continues, so
does the investigation. Police say they
are making great progress into
determining how and why the shooting
happened.

They've learned much about Joh ... a

troubled young man who fit the profile
of a school shooter.

But despite his shooting rampagesome
forgiving students have added a stone
for him at a makeshift memorial.

Sot: Phillip Grapes/Virginia Tech
Student

I don t agree with what he did, it is
terrible but he was a student here and
he is no longer with us.

With classes set to resume Monday
students are being given the option of
taking final exams. One students say
she plans on taking the tests.to send a
message to the world that the students
of Virginia Tech s Hokie Nation are
alive and well.
